Were Betty Draper's Breasts Photoshopped?

2009_10_january.jpg

Earlier this week Ralph Lauren was accused of some over-the-top Photoshopping in their ads, and now it appears GQ has given Betty Draper a digital boob job. Mad Men's January Jones graces the magazine's November issue, and NYMag accuses them of "artificial enhancement by way of Photoshop." What do you think? We don't want to know what they'd do if Joan Holloway were on the cover!

best boobs in the middle photo. thanks gothamist.

The liquify (photoshop) tool is a cover models best friend

They are already out with a denial, but I dont believe them. Its obvious.

This has already been covered extensively (and interestingly) by Salon.com. It turns out that a tight jacket, a wide-angle lens, the right lighting, and a lowered camera angle can work wonders without photoshop.

Exactly. At one time, photographers knew all those tricks. Actual skilled and educated photographers still do use them. But these days anyone with a cheap digital camera and Photoshop claims to be a "photographer" and relies on the power of the software to overcome a lack of skill with cameras, lenses, and lighting. So seeing something like this they assume the same techniques must have been used that they themselves would use.

Cleavage was being enhanced in photography long before Photoshop.

Why is this news? They ALL do it.

They're real but they're taped up- no photoshop needed.

I don't think any amount of tape, makeup and good lighting could turn her flat, boney chest into the cleavage we see in that picture.

[A busty classmate walks by.]
Butt-head: Hey Beavis, did you see Twin Peaks?
Beavis: No, but I taped 'em.

Oh, I'm sorry. I must have typed in gawker.com. I was looking for gothamist. My mistake.

100% sure the boobage increase is due to photoshop.
Or should I say 150% ;)

photoshop or not, who cares? if you're enjoying boobs on your computer screen they are all virtual.

Christina Hendricks is head and shoulders (and boobs) above the rest.

They are real, and they are spectacular!

If you've worked with Photoshop for 5 minutes, you know that's been retouched. The edge of the jacket is sharpened, the shadows in her cleavage are darkened, and the skin around her breasts has been with a lighter color palette.

It's not that they pasted in someone elses breasts, but they made hers more prominent.

Everyone who cares raise your [one free] hand.

nice pic there in the middle, dont care if it's fake

Nah, the redhead in blue really has it going on.

I'll need a closer examination in person before I can make that determination.

She's pencil thin and her boobs don't naturally look that full. Something has been done to enhance them in this photo whether it's lighting, angle, tight jacket, or photoshop. But she looks good, so who cares?

Exactly. Whatever was done or not done here, I'd hit it.

every single picture in every magazine is photoshopped
