This weekend, the American Kennel Club and the Cat Fanciers' Association are joining forces at the Jacob Javits Center this weekend to allow the public to Meet the Breeds. There will be 160 purebred breeds of dogs and 41 purebred breeds of cats on the scene—"each in its own designated booth, decorated to reflect the heritage of the breed, its characteristics and unique attributes as a pet." We went to the press preview yesterday and got to meet some of the animals—they seem pretty excited about this weekend!
Besides seeing cats and dogs, there will be experts discussing training, grooming, nutrition and first-aid, as well as "five rings with simultaneous demonstrations and activities including law enforcement K9s, agility, obedience, dog and cat breed showcases and 'Cat Idol.'" PLUS there is an Adopt-a-Cat "extravaganza," with numerous rescue organizations bringing in hundreds of sweet shelter cats and kittens who are available for adoption.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for kids under 12, but there's a discount available with online pre-event ticketing. And here are directions to the Javits Center.

I don't want to see the front of that last photo!
Those last 4 photos will haunt me forever.
Goddamn Furries....
Anyone who dresses up as a character from the show Cats should be spayed or neutered. Seeing people dressed that way always leaves me cold.
so many adorable kittens in this show.
' . . .dogs and cats living together . . . mass hysteria!'
Kitteh #2 controls everything...as usual.
Neko Case will be in town tomorrow evening for The New Yorker Festival. Meet the Breeds is right up her alley (though she advocates adopting rescue critters); I wonder if she knows about it.
...aaaaand I overlooked the part about "an Adopt-a-Cat 'extravaganza,' with numerous rescue organizations bringing in hundreds of sweet shelter cats and kittens who are available for adoption." >_
