Director Spike Jonze, actress Catherine Keener and third grade students from P.S. 41 temporarily renamed the intersection of Greenwich Avenue and Christopher Street "Maurice Sendak Way" and "Wild Things Way" earlier this afternoon. Marketing is alive and well in Greenwich Village! The movie comes out this weekend, and the wild rumpus has already begun as it's Wild Things Week in the city.

someone educate me - what's the west village connection?
I think Sendak wrote the book while living in the West Village.
This is also right around the corner from the Jefferson Market Branch of The New York Public Library, where Spike Jonze spent time this afternoon talking about the movie.
ah, right you are:
Maurice Sendak created Where the Wild Things Are when he was living just east of Jefferson Market Library in a basement apartment at 29 West 9th Street, adding another literary landmark for you to check out next time you are in the neighborhood.
i'm excited about the movie, but this is absolute bullshit.
Also, at the tourist center that's on 7th Ave and 53rd St, you can get a free print of a picture of yourself in front of a green screen that places you in the forest "where the wild things are," as it were. It's pretty funny.
woo ps41. now if only I was oh... 20-15 years younger I could've been there!
