  • From the Gothamist Newsmap: A child struck at 16th Ave & 40th St in Brooklyn, a hanging scaffold at Lexington Av & 68 St in Manhattan, and a perp search at 200th St & 111th Ave in Queens.
  • Get in line: Two victims of Bernard Madoff's Ponzi scheme have sued the SEC for "negligence."
  • A reputed mobster is complaining about not having a toenail clipper or a knife to cut his food (he only gets a spoon and therefore refuses to eat certain things he can't cut for fear of choking).
  • Another thing NYC doesn't want you to have: Flavored tobacco. The City Council passed a bill banning the stuff and Bloomberg is expected to sign it into law.
  • A fugitive wanted for a California murder (and featured on America's Most Wanted) was found during a Long Island DWI stop.
  • Six Vogue staffers were laid off today.
  • George Pataki is "ginormous" in Albany. His official portrait, that is.
  • Bill Thompson's campaign Photoshopped his head next to Obama's in some new campaign literature.
  • And RIP Captain Lou Albano.

    UNINTENDED YOU-KNOW-WHAT

    Hybrid and electric cars

    Unexpectedly

Cause a problem and a danger

    Universally.

Silence, it seems, is far from golden

    To walkers on the street--

    Autos zipping soundlessly

    And pedestrians may meet.

    Clatter's needed to save lives

    Though it shakes the core;

In a city plagued by noises,

    Guess we need one more

Instead of commenting like regular, I decided to record this video in response to the flavored tobacco ban.

"Another thing NYC doesn't want you to have: Flavored tobacco."

This is no big deal considering that the Federal government under Reagan banned flavored rolling papers.

Let this be a lesson to all you overweight fashion magazine workers. FAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE PERIOD! You either shed weight or we will shed you.

  • Mr Mel

One of the Madoff complainants, on WNBC-TV, said she thought he was a God an now she's suing him. When she was earning 10% or better a month she worshipped him and now it's the SEC that done her wrong. It never dawned on her that if it's too good to be true...

  • marcasm

I totally agree. These people were "selected" as Madoff investors. They obviously knew that there was something fishy about the returns, but were happy to be part of it. These people obviously thought they were cheating the system, but it bit them in the ass.
