Polaroid Returns

polaroid1009.jpg Call it a comeback. Following the announcement that Polaroid cameras and film would be gone forever and ever and never return; and following every hipster in town eating up the film on eBay to document their party nights ever-so-nostalgically; and following Urban Outfitters temporarily stocking them... Polaroid is returning! Cameras and film will be on sale by mid-2010, or you can try to buy this special kit on the 16th for the not-so-old-timey price of $430.

stick with digital and use one of the programs to "polaroid-ize" your photos. You get the same nostalgic feel, but pics that will last forever (plus the original/normal version of course!) I like poladroid (dot) net

"following every hipster in town eating up the film on eBay to document their party nights ever-so-nostalgically"

Every hipster I've ever seen with a camera has had a digital. Never seen one with a Polaroid, the "hipness" of which was somewhat before their time.

But of course everything has to be blamed on or credited to hipsters; otherwise this wouldn't be Gothamist.

Are you sure you weren't in, like, Turtle Bay.

  • HOTCUP

digital? you've never seen a hipster with a film camera?? are you sure you're looking at hipsters?

they generally wear vintage cameras more often than they wear pants.

"are you sure you're looking at hipsters?"

I'm in Williamsburg almost every day. Where, I've learned from Gothamist comments, any white person I see between the ages of about 18 to 30 is a hipster. So yes, absolutely sure.

  • HOTCUP

Jen, you forgot the "williamsburg" tag on this article.

but in all seriousness this is awesome news!

Let a thousand student art projects bloom!

  • Snoopy

Unfortunately all those youthful flowering projects will fade in only five or six years and turn into to a creamy tinted mush, just like their forbearers.

I knew there was a reason I didn't throw them away.

so how much will film be for my Polaroids?

  • Past Taliban

For $430 a pop, Polaroid shoulda just stayed wherever the F they were and not even bothered. What's the next bright idea; bringing back the Carrier Pidgeon too?

    Yes we can't!

  • Smitty025

Well when you consider that they can be faster than broadband internet, why not?
