A reader sent us this photo of a "Halloween-themed" window display at the Iceberg Army Navy Surplus store in SoHo. We called the shop and they claim to have received no complaints over the window, and said they don't expect to, as it's "just a Halloween display." And nothing says "Carhartts" like a pumpkin hanging.

Well, it IS an army/navy surplus store and the pumpkin people are wearing the merchandise. It not like it's a bakery or a day care center. Or a police station.
As a person of pumpkin heritage, this image offends me greatly.
Blow harder, Gothamist.
It takes a lot of air to stoke a fire.
Carhartt is spelled with two Ts.
It's not quite offensive, but probably in somewhat questionable taste. It's certainly no worse than the windows full of human bones and skulls in the Mark Jacobs store on Bleecker St.
Still, I've known a number of small children who have become truly terrified by some of the more gruesome Halloween displays. Yes, you can try not to walk past them with your kids, but if you live in the neighborhood, it's sometimes not easily done.
A little more sensitivity from the stores would be nice. It's not like they NEED the most horrific window display just to sell work pants.
Somehow I don't think the NYPD would approve of such an image, with a police officer lynching a man in an orange jumpsuit...?
They would REALLY disapprove if the outfits were switched!
Pumpkin, don't let the sun set on you.
I've done this windows display.. there is nothing offensive i simply worked with the magic of halloween.
This window gets a lot of attention and people are smiling seeing this window display.
For those who love this window :

and for those for do not like:
Just dont look at the window.
Halloween is a holiday for children and adult morons.
You didn't get that much candy as a child, did you?
Spoken like a true adult moron.
