Breaking: Queens Tree Splashed With Paint!

phpZuvRWTPM.jpg The Sunnyside blog posts about smidgen of paint spotted on a neighborhood tree (can you see it?). They report back enraged from the scene of the crime: "Graffiti bandits have sprayed a tree on 44th Street in the Gardens with purple paint. The oak tree is not in any danger, but it shows that some of these vandals will not stop at anything." What's next... banana peels on the sidewalks?! These heathens will stop at nothing! Seriously though, it sort of just looks like an accident.

ugh, awful write up. no story here. i'd like my 2 minutes back please. and "vandals will not stop at anything" and "heathens will stop at nothing" is the same phrase recycled.

You could have saved 30 seconds by not commenting.

You might want to see a doctor about your SDD (sarcasm detection deficiency).

If you look at the original image you can see that the paint is no accident. The tree was tagged.

Closer inspection also shows that the tree is a london plane, not an oak.

Thanks for the clarification, Mark Trail.

Was that meant to be an insult?

funny how i immediately knew who the author of this post was just by reading the title. it's nice how gothamist hides the name of the author on certain posts (mostly carlson's) from their homepage... ;)

but seriously, is there a quota for posts per day? or did you really think this was blogworthy?

the real story here is just how boring it must be to live in sunnyside.

Typical Carlson post must have:
1. Exclamation point in the header.
2. Nonsense about graffiti/vandalism.
3. Some stupid question in the article.
4. Brooklyn.

3 outta 4 this time around.

Go back to the nutmeg state!

The note would have been more persuasive if the writer had used a large knife to affix it to the tree.

You guys have no clue about the epidemic of graffiti that has been growing for the past three years in Sunnyside. It is a continuing battle between residents and roving gangs of teens who carry bats and metal pipes.

There was a neighborhood graffiti clean-up last weekend sponsored by a local community service group, but the thugs came back this week and re-tagged half the neighborhood.

So the fact that these lowlifes have moved on to tagging plant life is actually noteworthy. The vandals are trying to gain the upper hand by painting something that can't be cleaned up by concerned citizens.
