In a major surprise, President Obama has been awarded the Nobel Peace prize, making him the first sitting American president to win the prize since Woodrow Wilson in 1919. (Theodore Roosevelt was in office when he received the honor in 1906, and Jimmy Carter won some two decades after he left office.) The Nobel Committee's press release said the prize was "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."
The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons... Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.
In announcing the prize, Committee head Thorbjoern Jagland said, "The question we have to ask is who has done the most in the previous year to enhance peace in the world. And who has done more than Barack Obama?" So where was Barry when he got the news this morning?
In bed, according to a senior administration official, who tells the Times that press secretary Robert Gibbs called the president just before 6 a.m. to notify him. The source says, "The president was humbled to be selected by the committee"—and probably relieved he wasn't being woken up because the moon was obliterated. Rahm Emanuel says the White House had no clue Obama would receive the prize, which comes with a cool $1.4 million.
Asked why the prize had been awarded to Obama less than a year after he took office, Jagland said: "It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve. It is a clear signal that we want to advocate the same as he has done." Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, a former winner, told BBC, "It is an award that speaks to the promise of President Obama's message of hope." It's funny to think that just one year ago we were faced the with possibility of a McCain/Palin administration, and now there's a Nobel Laureate in office. It will be fun to see how the right wing pounces on this; we're sure Fox News is going to have a very big day.
Update: Here's video of Obama discussing the prize.

In a followup announcement, Nobel Committee head Thorbjoern Jagland said, "It is with great honor that we bestow the Nobel Peace Prize to President Obama in perpetuity. We just love him that much and know that he's going to be such a great success! Really, we can't get enough of him. He's so awesome."
rofl
I think awarding the Nobel to him is premature, but his intentions are genuine and as so far been worthy of the prize.
Congrats Mr President.
I agree, his intentions to turn the US into a marxist hellhole are indeed genuine.
Yes, because ensuring the entire American population has adequate Healthcare coverage is socialist and evil.
To hell with morality and for striving for the greater good. As long as we don't turn commie.
Well it's definitely socialist. We're all in a collective insurance pool where the rich and healthy will invariably pay for the poor and fat. We can debate its merits, but a universal plan is going to re-distribute wealth. A public option is similar. It's the re-allocation of capital.
Given the whorish behavior of the current Congress, the wealth will be distributed to the insurance and Pharma lobbies.
Current Congress? Congress has been a whore from the very beginning. Why do you think its name is a synonym for doing the nasty?
True it is, but is that necessarily a bad thing? Especially when 25% of the wealth generated in the country goes to the top 1% of the population? And besides we already have plenty of social programs, just not to the extent as Europe has them. And they do help tremendously. The key is to strike a balance between a welfare state and one that promotes self sufficient citizens.
Its not like Obama is proposing to blow up the system entirely and creating an American NHS. Then I could understand the fuss.
Baloney. Government health care will inevitably have to be rationed. Endless demand, limited resources, cost-cutting measures = rationing. Something you economic illiterates refuse to grasp.
Socialists don't give a damn about your health, they want to have more control over your life (and death).
WTF??
USA! USA! USA!
@TimSPC... LOL....
@OTC.... Agreed, WTF?..
I like the post's coverage of this. When seeking comments critical of the announcement: "The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip and opposes a peace treaty with Israel, said the award was premature at best."
New York Post, why do you offer a platform to people who you've previously used this language to describe: "Add one more atrocity to the blood- soaked history of Hamas: Yesterday, the cowardly brotherhood managed to kill dozens of Palestinian civilians at a UN school in Gaza."
Is it just because they said something convenient for you in this case?
Countdown until the right wing loonies hold this against him:
5...4...3...2...
Just like they did with Al Gore.
Bet Glen Beck, Hannity and the rest of Fox "News" goes apeshit...
how is this necessary/relevant/always your default cheap shot at fox?
"how is this necessary/relevant/always your default cheap shot at fox?"
A cheap shot at Fox "news"? You Betcha!
Look, while I think the award is, IMO, premature, this weekend, I'm going to have my coffee, put my feet up and enjoy the talking heads going bats__t crazy over this. The majority of said talking heads going bats__t crazy will no doubt be on Fox "news".
If you think that's a "cheap shot", hey, let's see the sound bites on Monday, shall we?
Because FOX's behavior is as predictable as the sun rising.
Well, there is that.
Want to see predictability? Go to "Foxnation".
Some of the comments in that thread really crack me up. I bet the Birthers are having a blast...
So are your comments whenever they're even mildly involved.
So are FTC2's comments when a kitten gets broiled or thrown out of a window.
Take a break from being so predictable Nancy.
Um, Who is "Nancy"?
S.D.
You're right about Hannity, Limbaugh, Glen Beck and Levin.
But just remember these are comedians and entertainers, those who question what they say and do their own research recognize that. The all follow talking points. Just listen carefully and they all say the same thing. They pound it over and over in the hope that people believe it. These folks have sold their soul for the almighty dollar. They are the worst type of patriots. When they hate a president the way they do, especially from the very beginning, one knows what is behind their motivation, money!! They possess no ethics and no moral imperatives.
Too late. They had you at 5.
its not LOONEY?
the prize noms are submitted in the end of january, so what did he do for two weeks to deserve the prize.
what a farce...and im a liberal psuedo anarchist anti everything pot smoking asshole, i gave mccain and sarah empty beetween the eyes palin the squint eye just like everyone else with half a brain.
empty between the ears. sorry
If he ended the wars, then winning would be no question.
What's that sound? Ah, archconservatives and neocons around the country have something stuck in their craw. Ides is going to have a stroke. In other news, somewhere in Dallas, someone was heard wailing, "Noooooo!!!! What about me??? I brought peace to Iraq! It's not fair!"
BTW, Desmond Tutu is not a "former winner." He's a past winner. Former makes it sound like they stripped him of the prize.
Hahahah - no one on the right is having a stroke. The right knows the left is full of nonthinking idiots. Confirming that daily surprises no one. Obama is a farce and anything that puts him in his corner with Carter and Arafat is completely apt.
People on the left aren't nonthinkers, they're just non-doers; too scared to actually stick to their guns and get something done because it might piss off someone.
Somewhere Joe Wilson is shouting at his tv "You Lie!!!"
The Nobel peace prize is very different in many ways to the other Nobel prizes. The peace prize committee has a tendency to award prizes based on topical issues, rather than a legacy of great accomplishment.
I think the awarding of the peace prize to Obama is an attempt to preempt, or at least influence, his future policy decisions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Obama will now be mindful of the fact that an escalation of military activity in Afghanistan will be viewed as a betrayal of this honor.
from WIKI
the peace-laureates often have a lifetime's history of working at and promoting humanitarian issues.
trhe last guy who won in 2008 worked for THREE DECADES "on several continents ... to resolve international conflicts"
im digusted, nominations are submitted by the end of january, he was only in office for two weeks and prob spent more time getting celebratory morning BJ's in the white house than making the world a better place.
this is from a guy who likes obama.
You and potsmoker keep bringing up that the nominations were announced in January without noting that the winners were not chosen then. They didn't pick a winner based on what he did by January. They picked Obama this month based partly on what he's done since then and partly because he has always fought for nonproliferation, before he even began his run for the presidency. It's a longtime commitment that he's being honored for, not a few policy decisions.
Yea, voting for war funding, denying genocide, bombing Pakistan, and supporting Israel...
...but non-proliferation should trump all of that, right?
If I recall correctly, George W. Bush made great progress with non-proliferation (see: N. Korea). So you think he deserved a NPP, too, right?
um, no.
Well, if one's logic is that he deserves it because of non-proliferation, George Bush---hate him or love---did get something done on that front.
Personally, I think non-proliferation is a joke. How about the US stops subsidizing nations who get nukes and maybe there won't be a rush to have nukes? How about America doesn't throw support at certain countries which helps drive the need for the other countries to arm up?
see N Korea?
They tested a bomb during Bush's term (which may or may not have been successful). They tested a second bomb 4 months after he left office.
AQ Khan was pardoned by Pakistan in 2004, with no repercussion.
Now these events obviously aren't GWB's fault, and leaving Pakistan alone was probably the right thing to do. Regardless, they don't seem to agree with your claim.
Dubya also did "great" work keeping the Iranian nuclear program down when it was small and relatively manageable. Now that it's too big to stop, they're happy to lay all the blame on Obama.
like obama gives a shit, he's already got two grammies.
also, that photo is damn cute.
Gav, the prize shouldnt be preemptive?
ive never heard of that concept.
in that case then we should give the prize to osama bin ladin, the taliban, Kim Jong-il, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Sarah Palin.
Noble Price!!!
I'm kinda w/potsmoker on this one. I got behind Obama in the primaries b/c I tended to agree more on policy issues with him than w/Clinton... then of course I campaigned vigorously for him before the GE... but honestly, this lionization of him is enough already. It takes away the meaning of the prize and frankly it pretty much smacks of condescension.
There's no doubt in my mind that President Obama will accomplish a great deal in the next eight years (yes, eight!). Maybe even achieve a lasting peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. Then we can give him the Nobel Peace prize.
No fan of Hamas, but if a spokesman for them really did say the prize was "premature at best", then I'd have to agree.
I'm not disagreeing with them there; I just think that you can find a better go-to than Hamas for enlightened, unbiased commentary.
But I also agree with John Matrix -- that is a damn cute photo.
You know what happens when you ASSume? Seriously, it's not just the right and Fox News who will have issue with this decision. It has more to do with the timing than with Obama being the recipient. I am shocked for the wrong reasons and think this decision was in poor taste.
As others have commented already, he was nominated in the first TWO weeks in office. It's a shame that it was thought such a honorable prize should be given before it was earned. Why not wait?
I feel bad for the other nominees who actually deserved it. My favorite quote from a previous winner "So soon? Too early. He has no contribution so far. He is still at an early stage. He is only beginning to act...This is probably an encouragement for him to act. Let's see if he perseveres. Let's give him time to act..." (former Polish President Lech Walesa, a 1983 Nobel Peace laureate)
Sitting U.S. presidents get a practically de facto nomination every time. There's nothing unusual about him getting nominated.
The last paragraph of the NY Post story explains the reasoning very well. It's the relief you get when someone removes a thorn from your side:
"Obama's election and foreign policy moves caused a dramatic improvement in the image of the U.S. around the world. A 25-nation poll of 27,000 people released in July by the Pew Global Attitudes Project found double-digit boosts to the percentage of people viewing the U.S. favorably in countries around the world. That indicator had plunged across the world under President George W. Bush."
So glad that this will rile up the rightists!
nominees are not officially announced until 50 years later thats why the org's database is only until 1956.
read the exact process at:
http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/process.html
he did no such thing for peace except make a few speeches, obama is not on the same level of putting in years of dues as gandhi, king, gore, mandela & carter
The nomination was made Feb. 1, less than 2 weeks after he took office. The fix was in from the beginning.
The Nobels are nothing but the academy awards for socialism.
@Ides, you might have a hard time understanding this, but the *nominations* are not made by the Nobel Peace Prize Committee. The Committee invites qualified individuals to send nominating letters to the Committee. Qualified individuals include "members of national assemblies, governments, and international courts of law; university chancellors, professors of social science, history, philosophy, law and theology; leaders of peace research institutes and institutes of foreign affairs; previous Nobel Peace Prize Laureates; board members of organizations that have received the Nobel Peace Prize; present and past members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; and former advisers of the Norwegian Nobel Institute."
http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/process.html
The Committee closes nominations in February, but Obama's nomination could have come from almost anybody including past professors, past recipients like Al Gore or Nelson Mandela or one or more of dozens of people. So, while intelligent people can argue that the award indeed might be premature, only idiots could argue that the Nobel Prize Committee "fixed" this.
again, nominations are NOT announced.
February-March – Short list. The Committee assesses the candidates' work and prepares a short list.
March-August – Adviser review. The short list is reviewed by permanent advisers and advisers specially recruited for their knowledge of specific candidates. The advisers do not directly evaluate nominations nor give explicit recommendations.
October – Nobel Laureates are chosen. At the beginning of October, the Nobel Committee chooses the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates through a majority vote. The decision is final and without appeal. The names of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates are then announced.
December – Nobel Laureates receive their prize. The Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony takes place on 10 December in Oslo, Norway, where the Nobel Laureates receive their Nobel Prize, which consists of a Nobel Medal and Diploma, and a document confirming the prize amount.
Are the nominations made public?
The statutes of the Nobel Foundation restrict disclosure of information about the nominations, whether publicly or privately, for 50 years. The restriction concerns the nominees and nominators, as well as investigations and opinions related to the award of a prize.
Nobel Speech Prize
If I travel around the world telling everyone what a horrible country the US is and kiss the ass of every tinpot third world dictator and appease every enemy of democracy, can I get a Nobel too?
This prize is for bending over and taking it up the butt from Iran and North Korea.
the grapes aren't getting any lower are they?
obama never did the things you mentioned. and he's about 100000x more deserving of this than kissinger.
Yeah, it worked so much better the previous eight years to go around saying, "The USA is the greatest nation this planet has ever known and will ever know! You're either with us or against us!"
There's nothing wrong with the first sentence in quotes; it's just healthy patriotism. The second sentence is where patriotism takes a nasty turn towards Nazism. Don't confuse the two!
It's not "healthy patriotism." It's unhealthy nationalism. Healthy patriotism is to say the country isn't perfect, but you love it anyway. Nationalism claims it's perfect and it's the greatest there ever will be, something patently unknowable and unprovable. I'm sure the ancient Romans felt the same.
you must be brain deficient to rely on the NYPOST to explain the justification by using worldwide "polls" showing dramatic improvement to the image of the US being viewed favorably is not exactly an explanation of how he affected world PEACE.
are you so easily fooled by the obvious quote from Hamas questioning the selection also?
whoah if i question this im a right wing racist republican down with Hamas.
gimme an opposing quote from an academic with a background in political affairs or a un worker covered in flies clearing landmines on a hot sunny day in africa.
im still waiting for Viane Del Gado's take on the peace prize.
nobel jumps the gun.
this kind of premature recognition cheapens the award, no?
It already was cheap. In all fairness to Obama, the Nobels hit rock bottom when they gave the peace prize to the despicable terrorist and pedophile Yasser Arafat.
As deserving as he might be, Obama should know that there are two kinds of people in this world: the ones who win awards, and the ones who get things done.
A) Does anyone have a better suggestion for who should have received it? Let's hear some of your foreign policy expertise... tell me about some of the other leaders in the world who have made substanitive moves towards peace in the last year.
B) I you want a specific example of how Obama has made the world more peaceful, look towards his brilliant move regarding the missile shield. By withdrawing the shield from Poland, he was able to:
1) De-escalate tensions with Russia
2) Place dramatically more effective missile interceptors in the Mediterranean, offering better protection to Israel and strategically controlling Iran
3) Get Russia's assistance on the U.N. Security Council, further penning in Iran.
As a result of this move, Iran has been forced to back down significantly and is now at the table, making the world a lot safer than it was when Obama took office.
that shit happened like two weeks ago, the decision to give him this award did not.
Yes, see #62
The things you site are the kind of things you might give a guy an award five or ten years later. We have no idea how the Iranians are going to respond to the change in missile defense. If history is any guide, they will simply build better missiles and more of them. And the uranium deal is still pending. Let's see if they go through with it and don't cheat.
"They picked Obama this month based partly on what he's done since then (JAN2009)"
you're saying that theres people out there in the world making years of moves, years making changes, years of helping people, years of tangible visible improvements,
then selection, discussion and evaluation of viable candidates is stopped every time Obama makes a speech?
cash for clunkers? health plans? the Gates thing? his opinion of Kanye? afganistan's biggest heroin crop in years? what exactly made him deserve it?
Im sure my barber at astor place and every Ray's Pizza in nyc is against nuclear proliferation also, maybe they should share the prize!
Also, not to beat a dead horse, but the two groups who are upset by this are A) The Taliban and B) Conservatives:
http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/president-obama/conservatives-critics-blast-obamas-nobel-peace-prize/
I'm sure the Pakistanis, many Iraqis, many Afghanis, Palestinians and Armenians aren't so giddy.
But I guess go yeah try and align an organization that trained 9/11 murders and conservatives together, ignorant liberal.
HA! I am Armenian American and very happy with Obama's performance thus far.
If I was Obama, I'd melt my Nobel Prize medal into bullets, capture Osama Bin Laden, then fire my award into his head.
I'll buy your ticket to Riyad.
I'll pay for the hotel! gitttter done!!
Clearly, Mr. O was given the Peace Prize for escalating the war in Afghanistan, threatening to invade Pakistan, and in general maintaining the imperial we-must-rule-the-world stance of the U.S. everywhere. Possibly his retention of almost all of Bush's policies of domestic surveillance and repression, were also taken into consideration.
In getting the Nobel Peace Prize, Mr. O joins such luminaries of peace as Le Duc Tho (who had the honesty to refuse it) and Henry Kissinger.
What has Obama done to deserve this award? What a joke Nobel prizes are now.
I would like to give the Nobel Committee the Nobel Troll Prize.
The crazies are going fucking nuts over it! Mission accomplished. Everyone else knows the Peace Prize is crap.
Don't you wish you could win $1.4 million worth of "crap?"
Is this suddenly starting to sound like the Matrix, is NEObama really 'the ONE' prophesized by the Oracle?
QRAY-
youre using the exact thing i mentioned,
Taliban & Conservatives are against this, grouping Conservatives (aka white republicans) and the Taliban, makes it easy to dismiss criticism and stifles a reasonable discussion.
the actual examples from your link are not monsters.they have valid opinions, in fact the article starts like this:
Domestically, it will force a debate over what, precisely, Obama has accomplished. Indeed, the early line from conservatives and other critics on the news, which will have major international reverberations today, is that it proves once again that he’s a showboat who continues to float along on words, not accomplishments, with some calling on him to turn it down
i dont know him, but John Miller is from the national review? not the Hitler Reincarnation Committe...
"Obama isn’t the first American president to win the Nobel Peace Prize, but he’s the first to win it without having accomplished anything"
Michael Binyon is from the Times of London, not the Association of Child Murders and Dope Dealers...
"the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace"
Gideon Rachman writes for the Financial Times, not the Landmine Proliferation - ACORN Pimping Project...
"I doubt that I am alone in wondering whether this award is slightly premature. It is hard to point to a single place where Obama’s efforts have actually brought about peace"
It's true, conservatives ranting against this does stifle reasonable discussion of the Taliban's arguments.
"hahah - no one on the right is having a stroke. The right knows the left is full of nonthinking idiots."
Since when, and I mean in the history of the existence of matter, has the right-wing EVER been associated with thinking? Who in the right-wing can even spell the word, for that matter?
You have to understand that they differentiate themselves from the "nonthinking idiots" on the left by calling themselves the "thinking idiots."
and getting a blow job in the oval office is so high brow.
I think Pauly Shore should have gotten the Nobel Peace Prize for the movie In the Army Now.
He should have gotten ANOTHER one for the movie BioDome.
Oh hell no. On the contrary, he should have been charged with crimes against Humanity.
You bite your tongue, sir.
QRAY #41
the NPP is notjust for world leaders.
Two hundred five names were submitted for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, 33 of which are organizations.
OBAMA JUST SAID IT LIVE!!!
I DONT NOT DESERVE TO BE IN THE COMPANY OF PAST WINNERS!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates
but says its used for MOMENTUM and he WILL ACCEPT.
Well, we already knew Obama was a neo-conservative Taliban shill for Fox News... ;)
Dude, put down the bong and click on "reply" when you want to respond directly to someone.
This is so absurd; but then again the NP has lost so much prestige in the last two decades that this actually fits in.
They might as well give these out in cereal boxes.
Your tears taste delicious.
Obama must be crying too because like me, he says he didn't deserve it. Could he have been lying when he said that?
Humility is a completely foreign concept to you, isn't it? We've never seen it from you and I'm guessing we never will.
not without your parents permission,5 proof of purchases and $3.95 for shipping
gotta have standards ya know!
I put my Nobel Peace Prize between my Obama Commemorative Plate and Obama Chia.
Lets get away from the "He didn't deserve it" mentality. let's say that he did deserve it...
My questions for the committee are; Was he the best candidate? Why did he stand out? How does he compare to past winners? Do you want to see him on Dancing with the Stars?
I've suddenly and unfortunately lost all respect for the Nobel.
JDS why is my comment pending approval??
Please correct your headline:
Prize not Price
Sorry, I'm an English teacher.
SNL will have a blast this weekend...
So proud to have voted for him!
In other news, the New York Yankees were awarded the World Series trophy. They won the most games during the regular season and they have more fans than anyone else so why bother with the playoffs?
Like many things in Europe, the Nobel Peace Prize is a joke of epic proportions.
rotfl, nice typo in the headline, Gothamist. Your chav interns can't be bothered with spell check now? Oh, who cares about having standards, right?
"President Obama Wins Nobel Peace Price"
Funny, how people say Obama hasn't accomplished anything
easily ignoring facts such as:
- Stopping the economic mayham left by "small government" republican policies with the wallstreet. How easy to forget ell was left for us to enjoy thanks to the very prolific in failure Bush government.
- Disuading BOTH china and Russia to change their position regarding arms proliferation, and signing after decades a agreement condemning nuclear IRAN.
- Advocating for health care in spite of massive the corporate lobby against it.
Of course the bellicose and the cynics find more merit in the failed republican policies that have only made the "hawkian" USA a joke and a real leftover in the international arena.
perhaps if he were to explode some moon that will be merit to qualify as achievement!
6 years of real higher education and some experiences abroad will make wonders for those opposing Obama.
hey, ides, are you listening? no, you're probably just covering your ears (or your eyes, in this case) like the rest of the right wing nut jobs when any logical evidence is presented indicating what obama (and, more broadly, liberals) has done.
seriously, no reply needed because, sir, you are a talking head windbag of the highest order.
Aside from the juvenile name-calling, do you have any argument of substance to make?
yeah, i'm pretty sure i did, and you missed it completely. no surprise there.
thats more time than Obama spent in office before the nominations were closed.
PricewaterhouseCoopers manually tabulates the responses according to Academy rules. Each year, it takes approximately 1,700 "person-hours" to count and verify the ballots by hand. It takes seven days to count the ballots for nominations and three days to count the ballots for winners.
A film must open in the previous calendar year, from midnight at the start of January 1 to midnight at the end of December 31,
imagine a summer 2009 movie winning a prize above all others shown in the previous 2008 calendar year.
or Soup's best Reality Show clip of 2010 named in Dec 2009 for something from John & Kate shown in Nov 2009.
I guess a 2009 science winner will win for a hypothetical powerpoint presentation made in Sept 09, instead of a imaginary real cure for cancer discovered in Dec 2008.
I nominate John & Kate for 2010 peace prize, when they finally resolve their differences and kiss and make up on the Larry King show it will be a bigger accomplishment than anything Obama did since he was in the third grade.
dude...
@potsmoker - Get a grip (and not on your bong). There aren't an army of Nobel Prize voters whose votes need to be tabulated. Once nominations are submitted by "qualified individuals" by the February deadline, the NPP Committee then considers the nominations. Read something before you speak: http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/process.html
NOBEL HOPE
Obama's honor thrills us all,
Beyond our fondest wishes;
Michelle as well, though she's staying grounded:
"You still have to do the dishes."
Cash for Clunkers.
spend 3 Billion dollars to save 5 mpg
turning an overall savings of gas to $300 million worth of gas and greenhouse gases, which actually only turns out to be 4 days of gas consumption.
you printed & spent 3 billion of imaginary money for
300MM of savings in gas use.
nominate obama for the PT Barnum Prize.
More like 10 mpg (58%), per DOT statistics.
Also, c4c was not solely an environmental program. It was also an economic stimulus.
no
the min. was a car had to get less than 18mpg and if your current car was vendor rated at 23mpg or more, you didnt qualify.
statitics of what was purchased vs traded in dont count.
what qualifies is what im quantifying
"statitics of what was purchased vs traded in dont count."
So facts don't count? Typical.
on paper the policy was written out as needing to save 5mpg,
if your car made 19 but you wanted a car that made 50mpg you did not qualify. get it.
if your car was poorly maintaned and shot flames and charcoal bricks behind you while spewing white smoke from the hood guzzling 10 gallons because your engine is shot just to go over the brooklyn bridge, that didnt matter, because the vendor says your car is rated at 25mpg NEW.
jobs, housing, transportation, public works and health initiatives spell economic stimulus.
giving 3 billion to car dealers and automakers is a BAILOUT.
...don't forget, 4 billion in "stimulus" to the crooks and thugs at ACORN.
"If one were to watch Fox News or listen to Rush Limbaugh -- as millions do -- one would believe that the burden of the ordinary American taxpayer, and the unfair plight of America's rich, is that their money is being stolen by the poorest and most powerless sectors of the society. An organization whose constituencies are often-unregistered inner-city minorities, the homeless and the dispossesed is depicted as though it's Goldman Sachs, Blackwater, and Haillburton combined, as though Washington officials are in thrall to those living in poverty rather than those who fund their campaigns. It's not the nice men in the suits doing the stealing but the very people, often minorities or illegal immigrants, with no political or financial power who nonetheless somehow dominate the government and get everything for themselves. The poorer and weaker one is, the more one is demonized in right-wing mythology as all-powerful receipients of ill-gotten gains; conversely, the stronger and more powerful one is, the more one is depicted as an oppressed and put-upon victim (that same dynamic applies to foreign affairs as well).
It's such an obvious falsehood -- so counter-intuitive and irrational -- yet it resonates due to powerful cultural manipulations. Most of all, what's so pernicious about all of this is that the same interests who are stealing, pillaging and wallowing in corruption are scapegoating the poorest and most vulnerable in order to ensure that the victims of their behavior are furious with everyone except for them."
I am so proud of President Obama. He will be one of our true greatest presidents. He promotes peace and understanding especially of cultures who are different from us. There is very little we can do to open the minds of those who believe the only way to go is thru guns. Warmongers will never understand the true meaning of love and peace. I am sorry but patterns have proven it. These same people will not understand how good it would be to have a single payer healthcare. The can't do the math. For these same people we also need to contribute to education, require each person to go overseas for one year to truly get educated by learning about other cultures. That would be a true education. Right now we are in a box. Anyway getting too long here.
Diss the Dalai Lama, bomb the Moon, get a "peace" prize.
Do you even have a job?
"ACORN isn't just being mentioned in passing as something that needs an examination; it's dominating headlines and the obsessions of the Fox News movement, despite the fact that it's a tiny, microscopic drop in the bucket even when assessed by the principles the protesters claim to support (by a vote of 345-75, the Democratic-led House just joined the Senate in voting to cut off all funds to ACORN; I'm sure the courageous Congress will be doing that to Blackwater, KBR, Citibank, lawbreaking telecoms and many other corrupt corporations who own them any moment now). Claiming you're worried about large government and taxpayer waste while fixating on ACORN proves the insincerity of the ostensible concern, let alone doing so while cheering on the same Wall Street banks, defense contractors, and insurance industries that control and expand government power for their own benefit."
What bomb are you referring to? Are you talking about LCROSS? If so, you're even dumber than I thought, which is really saying something. NASA doesn't send up space missions on a whim. It takes years of planning, construction and testing. The LCROSS mission was approved back in 2006. It also wasn't a "bomb." There were no explosives onboard, which would have contaminated the ejecta plume and made the mission pointless. It was purely a kinetic energy device. If you really want something your simple mind can equate it to, it's actually a giant bullet. So you can say NASA shot the Moon, but only a total ignoramus would say Obama bombed the Moon.
Beck won't need the Vicks to cry now.
Your comedic talant never disappoints me. Have you ever thought about doing comedy for a living?
Hamas Prime Minister: Nobel Peace Prize "Useless":
"Unless real and deep-rooted change is made in American policy toward recognizing the rights of the Palestinian people I would think such a prize would be useless," Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas prime minister in the Gaza Strip, told reporters after Friday prayers.
Joe Klein: "There is the sense that he has won simply by not being George W. Bush."
There is a slight whiff of condescension attending the announcement that Barack Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize. There is the sense that he has won simply by not being George W. Bush. Effete Europe is congratulating rowdy America for cleaning up its act and not bringing guns to the dinner table...But let's face it: this prize is premature to the point of ridiculousness... And so, how to handle this "triumph" becomes a strategic puzzle that requires serious thought. Two immediate thoughts occur: he can't reject it, but accepting it can't be about him. He can and should immediately say something like, "I don't deserve this." That's a no brainer. The question is, what should he say after that?... I'm sure there are other things he can and should do--starting with finding an appropriate place to donate the $1.4 million that comes with the award. I'd give it to Greg Mortenson or someone else who has a successful track record of building schools in difficult places.
1.4MM will buy a whole lot of Newports for those times hes chillin on the white house porch.
with bill ayers and his homies from acorn
Poor conservatives, why did this have to happen to them on a 3-day weekend? :(
I did not realize the Nobel Peace Prize had an affirmative action quota," wrote Erick Erickson, of the site RedState.com, "but that is the only thing I can think of for this news."

Rooting Against America: Nobel Peace Prize Edition
President Obama and NOBLE PRICE winner just endorsed Thompson for Mayor. Sucks to be Red bitches.
woot woot!
Once again, Beyonce gets screwed...
I am shocked that all the conservatives and so-called patriots are not proud that an American won a Noble Prize.
Where is your national pride? Or does your agenda trump patriotism? Is YOUR being right more important than America being right?
SNESS-
it was an example, the man hours involved in picking the academy awards in more than TWELVE DAYS.
Obama was only in office for 12 days before the deadline for nominations ended.
you may not be familiar with the sciences, but scientists get nobel prizes based on their discoveries before the deadline, not what new discoveries or speeches they make during the consideration period.
apply that to the Academy Awards and thats like saying some great movie released last year shouldnt get an award because the current movie in theatres now sucks.
This P.O.S. president we have goes around the world bashing what America stands for and claiming we are a muslim nation in a post 9/11 world.
He refused to pay his respects to the dead at normandy because he didn't want to offend the german chancellor.
He targets the very system that put the spike through the heart of communism.
He violated the 5th amendment and 4th amendments of the constitution by taking over private banks and general motors and chrysler.
He destroys the value of the American dollar.
He writes in his own words when things go bad he will be on the side of islam.
He appoints perverts and racists as czars...
He fear mongers the country about how this is the worst economy since the great depression.... Last i checked i don't see any one on soup lines...
sends 780 billion dollars in the name to save the economy. 780 billion and there are more people unemployed than ever before..
Promised 2 million jobs.... They are no where to be seen...
covers name of jesus and symbols of god and jesus when he spoke at a catholic university.
This coming from a person who said he is a christian. He spent 2 yrs in pakistan when he was 19 yrs old... The guy had no job no money what did he do for cash...
promises transparency but seals all of his college records and passport records.
This is the person who call cops action very stupidly with out knowing all the facts...
So tell me where did he even exhibit any inkling of deserving a nobel peace prize when all his action have shown nothing more than prejudice and hatred towards America and white society.
Remember he was against the connecticut firemen who went before the supreme court to fight reverse discrimination.
So tell me again how he deserves the nobel peace prize?
Obama is nothing more than a agent for islam taking down our government from within.
I think I know someone who's going to be getting a call from the tin foil hat committee about his upcoming award...
(sigh)
Never actually happened but I sense you and reality have rarely met... See above.. Ditto. Wow, as the 5th regards "Grand Jury, Double Jeopardy, Self-Incrimination, Due Process" and the 4th "Search and Seizure", I'd have to say: Put down the Crack pipe. At least this was new, usually it's the 10th amendment the radical right wingers bitch about... Nope, Pres. GW Bush's admin did that. Pres. Obama was left holding the bag and cleaning up the mess.At the risk of feeding the Troll, O where to begin? Let's see:
