The Marist Institute for Public Opinion polled Americans about what the most annoying word used in conversation is, and "whatever" won out with 47% of the vote. "Anyway" and "you know" (Caroline Kennedy's favorite) came in close, and completely beat out "at the end of the day," which received only 2% of the vote. Whatevs, I tots use it like, all the time when I txt my bffl. LOL! And vote on which word/phrase you think is most annoying:

FIRST
WHATEVER!!!
LOL
whatever. anyway, at the end of the day it is what is you know.
ROFL
How about "honestly" or "To be honest with you"? Which implies you otherwise were lying.
i think "like" is the worst...whatever
I agree, though of those listed I chose, "You know." I HATE listening to anyone speaking or being interviewed who keeps dropping "like" and "you know" every other word.
Like, agreed, like.
To be honest, I think "HIPSTER" is the most annoying word...
I thought is was going to be "All of them!" (a la Sarah Palin). Whatever back to you - you tragically hip, hipster!
Love, California Style
Like, whatever, like, you know... like... like.
I must hang out with the wrong crowd. I never hear, "It is what it is." I think I'd sooner hear, "I yam what I yam..."
"blah blah blah..." - i just shut down when i hear that one.
"spots on your lung scan".
"It's the perfect time to buy"
How's 'bout "oh no you di'int"....?
Or -- the bottom line.
"tsk"
(The universal tongue-clicking sound with a sneer. This is acceptable—or not—depending on the person who is "tsk-ing.")
"Like" - It's so tough to hold a conversation with most young folks now because of that damn word!
"Conversate" - need I explain why?
"At the end of the day" - Drives me nuts!
"NIMBY" - Reminds me of the retarded folks at Curbed.
"SoBro" - It's South Bronx newbie. Call it what it is!
"Guac" - You seriously can't finish this word? All in an effort to sound hip?
I'm done venting - for now.
lol
Most annoying words on the subway:
"Your attention please"
or
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen"

"Whatever" is just the most annoying phrase in that list. This poll tells us very little, and yet it managed to get an AM NY cover story.
"Like" tops my list.
As a person who, on a daily basis, throws in annoying things like "def," "obvi," and (most peoples favorite) "btdubs (aka by the way)"... I am really in no position to judge others.
But, I'm not gonna lie... hearing people overuse the word HOT really pisses me off.
