Rep. Charles Rangel is the Teflon Rep! Even though he apparently knows nothing about paying his own taxes, he's keeping the chairmanship of the House Ways and Means Committee—which is involved with the country's tax code!
Republicans had drafted the resolution to kick Rangel out of the powerful position—Rep. John Carter (R-Texas) said, "The man who is in charge of writing the nation's tax laws doesn't pay his federal income or property taxes." The vote was 243 to 156, pretty much along party lines; Politico, however, notes that Democrats "Reps. Gene Taylor and Travis Childers joined nearly all of the Republicans" to vote for Rangel's removal. Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio)'s spokesman Michael Steel said, "These votes show that support for the Democratic Leaders’ decision to sweep this matter under the rug is starting to crack."
An unnamed representative from Rangel's office told Fox News the resolution was a "highly partisan effort... Let's look at this resolution for what it really is -- a highly partisan effort designed to undermine the important work in Congress on health care reform."

Rangel's an embarrassment.
Get the hook.
What was that Nanci Pelosi said about running the most ethical congress in history when she became speaker?
It's to the democrats shame that they're not the ones trying to get rid of this brazen, outright crook. Let's not forget the tax cheat Obama appointed treasurer too. Remember this next time to have to go thru the hassle of filing your taxes again - the people that write the damn tax code and collect the taxes can't be bothered to follow it.
This has got to be the first thing I've agreed with Republicans on in ages. Get the scumbag and his "Domincans speak Spanish and therefore I didn't understnad that I owe taxes" ass out of Congress, at least his chairmanship.
How about that rent control too? The guy can make that go away by just paying market rate, and we all know he has millions and can afford it no problem, but like every politician he insists on holding onto his special privileges even though he doesn't need them. Such power hungry psychos.
Hey, GOP: remember the story of the stupid little boy who cried "wolf"? Well, maybe that's you guys.
The republican'ts have run such filthy, lying smears against so many good Democrats (Max Cleland, John Kerry, Al Gore to name but a few) that I'll continue to support Charlie Rangel just to rub it into their faces. Besides, Rangel has done more good for America on an average day than Boener & his crew have done in their best month!
Sommelier, this kind of stupid knee-jerk response is the reason we have such terrible politicians in this state and why Albany is completely dysfunctional. No one is held accountable, just keep toting the party line till we're all broke. Point a finger to the other guy and say, look he is just as bad so lets look the other way. I'm angry enough that I re-registered as an independent.
Please tell me what "good" Rangel has done.
Wow... Sommelier I agree with kissel... you are the reason that politics in this country is so f***ed up right now. Standing up for a guy like Rangel just to "rub it in the faces" of people you disagree with. You should be ashamed.
Rangel is a corrupt fool and should be ousted immediately. And while I am a conservative myself I would -- unlike you, Sommelier -- actually stand up and say the same thing about any Republican in the same situation. Take Ted Stevens for example, that man needs to be exiled. (I know, he's out of public office now, lost to a Democrat, and I'm happy about it.)
Please wake up and stand for something meaningful. Many Americans have different ideas about how "things" should be done, but we can agree to disagree and try our best to come to some kind of meaningful compromise that actually benefits us as a nation. People like you remain focused on partisan bickering and drawing the line across the bedroom that your brother can't cross. Grow up and understand that people with differing opinions can still make progress, but corrupt politicians who flaunt the law need to be kicked to the curb. Thanks for listening.
A Sommelier who likes political food fights? Go figure.
While every point you make is true, all you're saying is that Rangel is no worse than the Republicans.
I expect representation that's BETTER than the Republicans.
wrong is wrong, why can't people set politics and agendas aside and do the right thing.
country is turning to poo and poo like this is only making it worse.
we need to clean out the house and the senate
mendacity
