Method Man, a member of Staten Island's hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, was arrested yesterday for tax evasion. He turned himself to the 120th Precinct and when he was taken to his arraignment, he used a copy of "Ultimate X-Men" to cover his face. Really—video below.
According to the Staten Island Advance, "Officials allege Smith didn't file New York State Income Tax Returns from 2004 through 2007, failing to pay $32,799 in personal income tax during that time." Staten Island DA Daniel Donovan said, "Taxes are a burden that all citizens share in a civil society, whether you are an 'average Joe' on the street or a high-profile rap artist."
Previously, Method Man told reporters, "Because I got high, I forgot to pay. It was stupid," but his lawyer said, "I can assure you that he doesn't have a pot-smoking problem."
