Jane Hotel Gets Raided!

JANERAIDED.jpg The nightmare on Jane Street continues, though it still remains uncertain if the real nightmare is the Jane Hotel, or the wealthy NIMBYs who are unleashing every city agency upon their new neighbor.

To recap, the residents of the street have teamed up to fight the establishment; they've started a blog, filed complaints, hired a PR person, and rant on their Twitter as the loud, smoking, drunk masses keep them up at night.

The latest turn of events happened early Friday evening, as the DoH, DoB, NYPD and FDNY raided the place. Eater notes that the "prospects of the troubled State Liquor Authority stripping their liquor license seem slim," but let's not forget how the Beatrice Inn went down. They also say that the hotel was not forced to close, according to reps, "We were visited by some city agencies last night and have to restrict our capacity while we get some issues sorted, but we are open."

I see where the DoH, DoB, NYPD and FDNY's priorities are: to help rich people.

Rich people help DoH, DoB, NYPD and FDNY do their jobs.

C WUT I DID THAR?

So Jen, in the first paragraph you say the neighbors are unleashing every city agency against the hotel. But in the 2nd paragraph you say they're fighting the establishment. You can't have it both ways.

And did you bother to watch the video on the neighbors' blog? It's very clear that the nightmare is the hotel, not the people trying to get some sleep in their homes on a residential street. Unbelievable.

It's obvious that by "establishment" Jen was referring to the hotel.

So take a deep breath and calm yourself, it's a long way to go until Friday afternoon, m'kay?

I know what she was referring to.

Then you know that "fighting the hotel" and "fighting the establishment" have exactly the same meaning. So how is it that having it both ways?

Maybe he's just pissy about Eli's foot troubles?

Really I think she is referring to the rich people who kill local businesses.

Rich people with political ties who think they can do what ever they want is the establishment aka the man.

We'll just say you were being sarcastic.

The point is that only one side in the fight can be the establishment. And if you're powerful enough as is implied in the story to get four city agencies to raid a club for you then you're not fighting the establishment, you ARE the establishment. Get it now? I doubt it.

First:
http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=establishment
S: (n) institution, establishment (an organization founded and united for a specific purpose)
S: (n) establishment (a public or private structure (business or governmental or educational) including buildings and equipment for business or residence)

Second:
Jen obviously used the word "establishment" merely as a synonym for "business" as she was referring to the hotel in the previous paragraph. Trying to argue that she used the word to mean something like "organization in power" is like digging yourself a deep, dank hole.

Have a great evening, see you at the office tomorrow, you grumpy bastard!

Anyone who's worked in bars or restaurants in NYC has probably seen at least one of those joint inspection visits with all four agencies represented. I've never heard anyone call it a "raid" before, but I guess using that term is fitting as part of the general overreaction on both sides of the "Jane controversy."

Those poor persecuted hiptards. Too bad residents near Cooper Square don't have the same level of pull with the DoH, DoB, NYPD and FDNY.

I was there on Sunday... Pretty lame. The patio was closed, but the place is lame-ass!

Sounds like it will re-open soon as I have also heard the Beatrice is re-opening excited for both to open again soon.
Sorry rich d-bags:(

They should just go back to meatpacking with their true brethren.

Sounds a little corrupt to have them all raid the place.

This wouldn't happen in the East Village if neighbors complained.
Just like they don't have a high-line there.
Hell, they barely have a park.
And their bike lane is a mess.

You pay, you get more perks. That's the new new york city way.
