Now that David Letterman has told American about having sexual relationships with female staffers—because a 48 Hours news producer was allegedly trying to extort him for $2 million—details about those staffers and trysts continue to come out of the woodwork. In fact, one former intern told TMZ, "I was madly in love with him at the time. I would have married him. He was hilarious."

According to TMZ, Holly Hester was a student at NYU when she worked for the Late Show in the 1990s: "Hester says during a hiatus, Dave called her up and asked her to the movies. It began a series of secret dates, with no one on the staff having any idea." Alas, Letterman broke things off, citing their age difference. The Post also reports about other alleged paramours of Letterman and has a quote from a "high-ranking" staffer, "Dave has a great track record of promoting women on the show -- three of the five executive producers are women, and all of them have been with him for more than 20 years," while another source say the Late Show is "a very female-friendly place. He's got all these strong women working for him. Strong women survive there."

The suspected extortionist, Robert "Joe" Halderman, had recently broken up with Stephanie Birkitt, who apparently had a relationship with Letterman, and allegedly used her diaries and emails (which detailed the Letterman relationship) to blackmail the talk show host. Believed to "desperate" due to financial debt, Halderman pleaded not guilty is out on $200,000 bail. Halderman's lawyer, Gerald Shargel, whose past clients include John Gotti, said, "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to cross-examine David Letterman. That's the day that the whole story will be told."

How many times seeing a rich old men getting his action with a young intern women? Then the women starts moving up the ladder.

Never hear about a rich women getting it on with a young men intern.

Well, one of the show's producers is a lesbian, so it is unclear if a woman had to sleep with him to get promoted.
Hate to tell you guys, but some women are more competent than some guys.

Anyway, Halderman sounds like a real creep. What kind of louse not only blackmails and brings a young boy into the mix, but uses the diaries and photos of his former lover as bait?

Ok, so now can all the males who were passed over for promotion in favor of Letterman's female bed partners sue for discrimination? Oh wait, equal rights, it's a one-way street. Nevermind.

That's right.
I have similar experiences at work. Many times I have to teach people how to do their job, since they have ZERO industry experience but are somehow at a middle level job. But they have the same skin color as the head of the dep't, who coincidentally they know from outside of work.

Right, so now every woman who's ever worked there and gotten a promotion has had sex with him. Come on now.

What really amazes me is how men act so dumb in situations like these. Guess it's easier to maintain a secret relationship when you are expected to spend some time with that other person in a working environment versus a total outsider. Still, don't they think about what they've got to loose?

RE: Shargel's quote..."I'm looking forward to the opportunity to cross-examine David Letterman. That's the day that the whole story will be told."

The "whole" story is irrelevant. The only thing relevant here is whether Halderman attempted to extort Letterman.

How about another scenario:
Popular boss, kinda dorky, comedian, smart and funny, lotsa intense work and late nights. He's got some good talent (many happen to be female), OTJ stuff happens. These women, professional, proficient and well qualified, have a fling with the big guy. All on the up-and-up adult level, they know the rules, have a great time, fling ends, they're great friends and great co-workers. Product continues to flow, mature adult professionals, dedicated to the job, no flak, they don't even have to worry about "dealing with it". They're professionals dedicated to the job. No harm, no hard feelings, no civil suits, no harassment. Just the camaraderie of a high-pressure organization where mature professionals can handle all the stuff and not lose sight of the goal. It seems to be only the extortionist, his lawyer and the media that have a problem with all this. Let the pros do their jobs, enjoy their lives/jobs, and continue to work and advance in their fashion. It's up to them, not us. Anyone who has worked in an organization knows how it goes. This seems like the most harmless and congenial of all circumstances, except, of course, for the criminal extortionist. They're adult professionals, let 'em be.
