As previously mentioned, Democratic City Councilmember Charles Barron has blasted Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowtiz, calling him a Benedict Arnold for endorsing Mayor Bloomberg's third term bid. At a rally outside of Brooklyn Borough Hall yesterday, Markowitz, a Democrat, threw his support behind the billionaire mayor, telling everyone, "When you have a great thing you stick with it...Do we agree on everything? No. But I know we agree that Brooklyn is where New York City begins."

Bloomberg, who was at Markowitz's side, proudly declared, "Marty knows that this election isn’t about partisanship, it’s about leadership. Marty’s decision to join our campaign shows what Brooklynites already know: Marty has the courage of his convictions." He also knows who's going to be buttering his bread after the next election, and odds are it's not going to be a Democrat.

Contacted by Politicker, Barron unloaded on Markowitz: "He's a traitor to the borough of Brooklyn. He's supposed to be a big-time Brooklyn cheerleader."

What's the big surprise here? Marty likes russian billionaires and now he's humping a domestic one. The common denominator is money-lots of it, and what politico can resist the lure of it? You can vote a pig out of office but the money never leaves.

Pols betray their constituents? Do tell! Harumph!

  • aspiringrapper

With the Bronx being the only borough on mainland New York, wouldn't it be the borough where NYC begins?

  • Good God Almighty! We all knew who was going to butter Markowski's bread but does Bloomberg have to be in our faces about it?

I can't stand the billionaire Bloomberg or our Govenor Corzine for that matter. Simply put, monied Wall Streeters are too out of touch with the average Joe.

Not that I'm rooting for Ed Norton for mayor/governor/senator/president but instead of worrying about nationwide gun laws, our pols in DC should be worrying about nationwide campaign financing laws.

Just another reason why brooklyn is full of douchebags.

  • JacqueMehoff

I think most of Brooklyn already knows marty's a traitor.

be careful brooklyn. you don't want to be a manhattan east.

Anything Charles Barron is against is OK with me.

  • ides_of_march

    Agreed.

  • tom9d

Other people are in this election in the same way that Guam is in the United States.

    Gothamist,

I think you forgot to put a picture of Bloompig at the bottom of your site.

If you are going to fairly cover the election can you please not be so obvious about planting daily stories about the person buying ads all over your site? There are other people in this election and they deserve coverage.

  • longacre

Are you illiterate? This is a completely negative article about Bloomberg.

  • GaryK

all i am saying is that they should cover other candidates in this race. even bad articles are good publicity in many peoples eyes. what the candidates without a billion dollars need is exposure.

if a blog like gothamist is going to take $$$ from the billionaire incumbent they should go out of their way to cover the other candidates.
