The Post's Sully Backlash

2009_09_sullyback.jpg With Miracle on the Hudson pilot Captain Chesley Sullenberger back in the air, of course there's some grumbling. The Post suggests, "Wimpy US Airways bosses feared... Sullenberger might not be able to hack the media glare of what they billed as his 'return to the air' yesterday," so they had him fly three other flights for prep. A US Airways spokesman explained, "We didn't want to put too much pressure on the guy." Of course, the Post probably has sour grapes since the Daily News was included on one of the earlier flights.

That sounds so....reasonable? It must be difficult to live with yourself if you work for the Post.

I don't think anyone reads the post for educational purposes. That being said, their front page headlines tend to be some of the best on earth. Truly masterpieces.

The Best NY Post Headline: HEADLESS BODY IN TOPLESS BAR

Well damn US Airways for ensuring all the unnecessary hoopla doesn't endanger the well being of the flights inhabitants.

If they wanted to avoid unnecessary hoopla, they shouldn't have announced Sully was flying again, but rather just let him do it. The point of the article was that the airline lied, plain and simple, not that he did or did not need to get more time in the cockpit.

handsomedevil: The guy has been a pilot since his twenties, so don't you think it's overbearing (just a bit) to make him fly three flights just to prove that he still knows how to do it? You must be a Post reader... if that's what people actually do with that rag.

Remember, Sully made a point of mentioning to the press that he & his staff were all Union members. That in itself is enough to piss off the Union-hating Murdoch gang of knuckle-dragging goons.
