The U.S. Department of Transportation is holding a "Distracted While Driving" Summit, which will give recommendations for better road safety in the day of texting and more. DOT Secretary Ray LaHood said, "We can really eliminate texting while driving. That should be our goal." How, it's unclear—the NY Times has a story on road warriors who turn their cars into offices and email while zipping down highways. One such driver said, "It’s an adrenaline rush. It’s the buzz we all get of trying to do everything you can in business." Also, what about when you use your cell phone to find parking spaces?

9 out of 10 times if there is a person driving like an ass
it is because of a cell phone call or texting.
I'd like to put them where the sun don't shine.
In your ass?
zinger!
I'm sure it's an even bigger adrenaline rush to send a granny cartwheeling over the top of your car because you're too much of a selfish fuck to drive responsibly.
"US DOT Thinks Drivers Shouldn't Text"
as much as i am loathe to use this word: DUH!
Maybe our government should spend lots of time and money on studies, committees, hearings, enforcement proposals and engage in the protracted process of enacting laws.
And then be sure that none of the laws are enforced!
Wow, I wish specific harm upon Adrenalin Rush Driver. May his keen mind for business splatter against a tree before he wipes out a minivan full of little leaguers.
Thanks for the laugh, Hymietown.
Seriously, I'm afraid to go out on the road anymore, now that I know what's out there. That trucker with the keyboard on his lap (on top of his chihuahua) on the Times' front page? I mean, yikes! But at the same time, the Times also ran an article about how motor vehicle accidents are actually down. Of course that's little consolation if that trucker/computer nerd smashes into you....
Accidents are down because less people are working. Less people working means less money to pay for gas and less people on the road.
cell phones really do kill brain cells...just not scientifically/medically.
Driving is a PRIVILEGE not a right. If you are too dumb and self centered to realize that talking on a cell phone, texting or any other kind of "business" activity while driving is not a good idea then you should not be driving at all. If you want to work during your commute then take public transportation. I have had too many close calls with idiots on the road that are distracted while driving.
I think the penalties for driving while talking or texting should be severe. Heavy fines and loss of driving PRIVILEGES.
They held a "Summit" for this? Was Vladimir Putin invited? How hard is it to say "Texting bad for monkey behind wheel because monkey not watch road, monkey crash car and monkey get hurt."?
