Sea Lions seem to be making all the headlines this year; this summer a baby one was born at the Bronx Zoo, and then the New York Aquarium started a new pricey Sea Lion program up for visitors. Now that the business world has been conquered, they're showing their creative side.
NY1 reports that the Bronx Zoo sea lions "are trying their hands at painting on canvas. The zoo says it is a slow process. First, the animals had to be trained to hold sticks and mimic the motions of someone using a paint brush." See them paint daily around 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., right around their feeding times.

Is the Bronx Zoo going to sell the sea lion paintings?
At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old killjoy, I thought the purpose of the Wildlife Conservation Society (i.e., the Bronx Zoo) was to conserve and educate... not treat its wild animals like cute exotic pets in the manner of Sea World and Ringling Bros.
booooo.
Does this mean Louise Lawler has to take up wildlife photography?
I'll bet most of these paintings will be as good or bad as a lot of what you find in modern art galleries.
