Bloomberg Is Still Richest New Yorker, According to Forbes

2009_09_bloomt.jpg With its latest list of the 400 richest Americans, Forbes finds that Mayor Bloomberg is holding steady at as NYC's richest rich person. He's number 8 on the list between a Walton (of Wal-Mart) and Charles Koch.

His entry notes hat he's "facing a fiscal crisis as banking chaos destroys Wall Street. Lucrative bonuses that came with working on Wall Street fueled spending on apartments, restaurants and shopping in recent years; as bonuses dry up, so does the city's income. Forecasts predict NYC's tax revenues will fall 28% - nearly $7 billion - in 2010." It also says his estimated $17 billion net worth is down, but it's up from its March estimate (when they named him the 17th richest person in the world).

Forbes also says, "For only the fifth time since 1982, the collective net worth of The Forbes 400, our annual tally of the nation's richest people, has declined, falling $300 billion in the past 12 months from $1.57 trillion to $1.27 trillion," and lists 55 New Yorkers on the list.

Another reason not to vote for him. I always say, never vote for a billionaire. I don't care that he came form a humble background. He's forgotten what it's like to be a regular guy. Trust me, you forget.

What's at least refreshing is, rarely do you get someone with as much power and money in a leadership role who actually performw well at considering the interests of the public. As far as NYC mayor's goes, he's been one of the better ones.
