Last Night's Action: Kyle Still Sucks

  • Yankees 4 Kansas City 3: There’s nothing more for the Yankees to wrap up in the regular season, but this win was a nice gift to the fans. Sure another win is nice, but the way it happened, a comeback off of old “friend” Kyle Farnsworth was a nice release for the locals. After watching Farnsworth implode in big spots as a Yankee it was nice to see him do it against the Yankees. Juan Miranda completed the comeback with a RBI single in the ninth. More importantly, A.J. Burnett pitched well and David Robertson looked good in his first action in three weeks as he tries to make the postseason roster.
  • Washington 4 Mets 3: New York jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but they couldn’t close it as they fell to the Nationals. Two errors in the eighth allowed the Nats to break a 3-3 tie and win the game.

The Mets disaster starts at the top -- the Wilpons. If Omar & Jerry survive this year then I have little hope for 2010. Although I think Omar is out of his depth in New York, I feel lousy about Jerry Manuel because I genuinely like the guy and think he's a good baseball man. It was a tough spot for him from the beginning considering the organization he was joining.

The Mets need a strong General Manager and for Jeff Wilpon to be taken out of the decision making process. Freddie the Batboy should look towards the Knicks as a model for getting an idiot out of the management chain.

I think all media coverage of the Mets should be discouraged. The next city in line for a Major League Franchise should be notified that have to take over the Mets organization and get them out of here. Make Citi Field the Little League official headquarters or perhaps a community garden. Maybe Gothamist can run a suggestion contest.

I have no use for the Yankees but at least they serve one purpose -- on game nights I know where all the Republicans are gathered.

Yet another, atrocious, error-filled Met loss... Art Howe, a decent fellow and baseball guy, was run out of town on a rail after back to back 90 loss seasons. Do we need to wait for another 90 loss season before ownership realizes this team is a fucking mess? Unfortunately I think that answer is yes. Boycott the games, don't buy any Mets gear and tell the Wilpons to take their shitty team and shove it up their asses.
