Paging George Jetson, your future is here! Something called the EU Infrastructure has created an illustration of their vision of the future of public transportation. Forget The Aerotropolis, can you picture "Self Driving Cars, SkyTrans, Electric Bicycles, Mag-lev/air propelled trains, Moving sidewalks to replace pavement, Segways, Backpack helicopters and Zeppelins" in New York City? PSFK notes that "While some of these concepts are seemingly as far-fetched as the fabled flying car, they have all been realized to some degree." But maybe we should just focus on that 2nd Avenue subway line first? [via Animal]

Zeppelins? Seriously? Wasn't that the "Future Of Travel" in 1930?
I like the backpack helicopter. Because I'm not satisfied with the constant threat of a painful death coming at me from only 2 dimensions.
Damn you, making me laugh at work and almost get caught goofin' off.
Moving sidewalks? A WALL-E future is neigh for all!
i know right, can't wait to see if these new designs are made sturdy enough to accommodate all the fat people that will be using them...
I think we'll see a flying car before the damn world trade center goes up. The original world trade center took 3 years to build in the 70's. IN THE 70's!!!!1
I beg to differ. The WTC began construction in 1968 and the last touches (before the Vista International) were made in 1976. It took 9 years. But before WTC2 is complete, we'll all be stepping into transporters and our molecules will recombine wherever we want.
"But maybe we should just focus on that 2nd Avenue subway line first?"
Amen.
Word.
Electric bikes - because people in the future need to be even fatter.
How about properly funding the transportation modes we use now?
Um, the real future is telecommuting. Heck nanotech printers are going to render the supply line obsolete in 30 years.
