Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who captured the hearts of many when he safely landed US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River, says that he's ready to fly planes once again. He said yesterday, in a statement from US Airways, "The months since January 15 have been very full, and my family and I have had some unforgettable experiences. However, I have missed working with my colleagues at US Airways and I am eager to get back in the cockpit with my fellow pilots in the months ahead. In my new role, I will continue to be the same kind of advocate for aviation safety that I have been for several decades."
Sullenberger will not only continue to fly planes but he'll also be a "management pilot," joining the airline's "flight operations safety management team," which is smart—we bet US Air really wanted to keep the Miracle on the Hudson pilot! the US Airways adds that a pre-announcement of his return to the skies will be on their Twitter feed.
On October 13, his new book—one of a two-book deal with William Morrow—Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters will be released. There's even a video trailer for the book, with much commentary from Sullenberger's wife Lorrie, which makes us think this would also be a great TV movie. Also, we dare you not to tear up just a little!
Also cute: A comment on the YouTube page is apparently from Flight 1549 passenger Eric Stevenson (seat 12F), "As a flight 1549 passenger and survivor, I owe my life to the skill and bravery of Captain Sullenberger, the entire flight crew and the many first responders. This summer I had the honor to meet Sully and was struck by how genuine, caring and down-to-earth he is, even after all the public focus."

OK, I don't get it. The guy did a fantastic job landing the plane in the drink - great going. I say this without being sarcastic. Saved all of those lives...
...but is his life outside of that really so interesting? sure, he could be a nice guy, a good family man and all that. However, what makes him so special that I would want to read a whole book on the guy?
I personally won't be reading his book, but I'm sure there are some people out there who will want to. And any money that he gets from the book deal/ sales I'm all for.
Sully is the man. A real superhero.
People read books written (ghost written) by sports figures, so why is this different. At least this guy did something to save peoples lives rather than have a meaningless life throwing catching and/or running a ball in some sports arena.

Captain Sullenberger was also a decorated Vietnam War pilot who has seen the ups and bitter downs of commercial aviation for decades, so I'm guessing he has a lot of better stories to tell than we do.
