DJ AM's Death Ruled Accidental

djam090929.jpg Following his sudden death last month in his Lafayette Street apartment, the New York City Medical Examiner has finally determined why Adam Goldstein, aka DJ AM, died at the age of 36.

Goldstein had battled with drug addiction in the past, and had recently been abusing again (possibly as a result of stress from the plane crash he survived), so it's not entirely surprising that the M.E. came back with a laundry list of drugs. They reported the death was due to "acute intoxication" from the combined effects of cocaine, oxycodone, hydrocodone (Vicodin), Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax, Benadryl and Levamisole (a drug used to cut cocaine with). The official cause is ruled an "accident (substance abuse)."

Meanwhile, MTV plans to air the eight episodes Goldstein filmed of his show "Gone Too Far," which is a drug intervention series.

In a separate finding, the Medical Examiner ruled DJ AM's life accidental as well.

How can they rule it accidental? How does that list of drugs tell them that?

  • Amanda Harletsch

  • SighR

That plane crash would have changed my life.

"No more walking on the wild side for me! I only mix Cocaine, Xanax, Vicodin and Benadryl from now on."

  • nicemarmot

Actually, it was supposedly the pain from the giant burns all over his body that got him addicted to the painkillers and from there, back to hard drugs. It's a real risk for former drug users - I've known former addicts who refused pain meds after surgery because they were afraid of falling off the wagon again.

  • FunChop

accident my ass, you don't take that many drugs if you're not suffering from a death wish.

Guess what? His wish was granted.

  • echo

    Exactly!

  • Snoopy

A tragedy indeed. Who the fuck was this guy and who other than a few dead beat late night party goers even knew this guy?

If he was in pain, he should have taken two aspirins and called his doctor in the morning.

  • corbindallas

I cry ever time I think of what we all lost. If only he could afford a doctor to administer his meds.
