Lawyer: Polanski In "Fighting Mood"

2009_09_polanski.jpg Film director Roman Polanski, currently held in Swiss custody on a U.S. arrest warrant for the 1977 rape of a 13-year-old girl, will fight extradition, according to his lawyer. Herve Temine said, "Taking into account the extraordinary conditions of his arrest, his Swiss lawyer will seek his freedom without delay. He was shocked, dumbfounded, but he is in a fighting mood and he is very determined to defend himself."

Polanski was arrested when he arrived for the Zurich Film Festival, which was going to give him an award. Apparently the French and Polish Foreign Ministers have both contacted Secretary of State Clinton to complain—the French FM Frederic Mitterand said, "In the same way that there is a generous America that we like, there is also a scary America that has just shown its face."

A spokesperson for the LA County District Attorney's Office, which set the trap for Polanski, Sandi Gibbons said, "Any time word is received that Mr. Polanski is planning to be in a country that has an extradition treaty with the U.S., we go through diplomatic channels with the arrest warrant." She added, "It wasn't any secret. It was on the Internet. They were selling tickets to it."

Pedophiles stick together. Even Janet Napolitano protected pedophiles.

god it's embarrassing how many people here are happy to just go off with half the story. he's guilty, that's true. but he pled guilty in exchange for a recommendation for time served (about a month and a half). but, an uninvolved DA who had the judge's ear got the judge to prepare to sandbag polanski AFTER he had already pled guilty, which was his part of the bargain. now, the DA has him apprehended after 3 decades of doing zip. this case at this point is beyond guilt or innocence, well beyond. do your homework.

Where was her mother? What kind of mother leaves her 13 year old girl alone with a grown man (whoever he may be)?!

  • Think2wice

Polanski needs to grow a pair and face his accusers. If he is innocent, he needs to fight, because not everyone has the money or connections to fly away just before sentencing. Some have had to sit in solitary for 30 years. Others were not even that lucky. Roman, face the music.

As for Mitterand, go hunt down some foreign words that should never contaminate the French tongue.

Polanski "was shocked, dumbfounded, but he is in a fighting mood and he is very determined to defend himself."

Let's ply him with a 'lude some champagne and then let him try to defend himself.

Frederic Mitterand. Now which whore did his dad Francois fuck to produce that?

  • TheMactastic

He already plead GUILTY...he knows what he did was wrong. Then he ran away like a coward.

  • paulie

Fuck the rapist. It's that simple.

Those oh so sophisticated Europeans, once again looking down their superior noses at those backward, intolerant Americans who still think a grown man who drugs and anally rapes a child should go to jail.

  • inoyourider

Why isn't this perv in prison already?

He deserves to be arrested for his selfish behavior.

Even if he is innocent, who does he think he is that he can bail out of the country right before sentencing? This is what sickens me about him...that he thinks he's so entitled that he is practically above the law and can skip the normal judicial processes.

Not every innocent person is so lucky they can do what he did.

Hey France, we wouldn't have to show our "scary face" if Mr. Polanski would keep his scary penis out of 13 year olds.

  • Matt Joyce

Well better than being in a raping mood.

  • FrankMartin

FM Frederic Mitterand says this is the "scary" America. What's scary is the willingness of France to make this man a citizen and then protect him.

Say what you want about the girls mother being a psycho stage mom or that the child now woman says he shouldn't be punished. A plea bargain being thrown out by a publicity hound judge.

He, apparently, gave a 13 year old champagne, Quaalude and then raped her vaginally, anally and orally.

He deserves his day in court.

  • T

Franky baby, he was born in Paris.

  • FrankMartin

As the son of a Pole and Russian he was not French at birth despite being born in Paris.

France unlike the US doesn't have automatic citizenship laws. So he became French later, and, given the timing it would seem he did so to avoid extradition to the US.

  • nicemarmot

Wowza. You know, I was actually against extraditing this asshole, mainly because I feel that if the victim doesn't want it dragged back up, we shouldn't waste the money trying to get him back.

However, if it really pisses off French douchebags like that dude, it may be worth it after all. "The scary America has just shown its face"? Umm, no. That's called extradition laws. The next time someone commits a crime in France and runs to another country to escape punishment you call us, okay dumbfuck?

  • Clarice City

I lived in France for a year, and believe me, they are slipping into second world status very quickly. They love to complain about Americans whenever the opportunity arises- actually they just love to complain but that's probably because they're all hung over all day every day.

  • Kojak

Um, Mr Mitterand. He is accused of RAPING A 13 YEAR OLD GIRL. Switzerland may have an extradition treaty with the US and as such must follow treaty stipulations.

And France has not been very forthcoming bringing those accused of crimes in the US back for trial. So we make do with what we have.
