Brooklyn Man Shot in Projects He Was Mere Days from Escaping

2009_09_eastnyprojects.jpg A 24-year-old man, who was two weeks away from moving out of his East New York housing projects, was gunned down in front of his home yesterday. Robert Castro was fatally shot just after midnight Saturday at East New York's Boulevard Houses with no clear motive and no arrests yet made. Castro was preparing to marry his long-term girlfriend and mother of his two young children. A recently laid off janitor with a previous record for drug and weapon possession was called "the greatest father ever" by Shamica Mercato, his girlfriend of ten years.

if they've only had their "Levittowns".

Demo the pjs and build market rate housing. If the dysfunctional claim some right to free housing, let them enjoy it in Houston.

what kind of bullshit fuckin article about someone getting shot doesn't say if the guy is dead, injured, what?

    See second sentence.

Unemployed with no education or skills besides minimum wage jobs. Having children in your teens and then having another one while not even being married. Lets not forget about the previous record of drug and weapon possession. Is that what you call a good father? The mother should learn to use birth control and the father needs to get some skills and education.

At least he stayed with the mother and didn't abandon his children.

Sorry to say Steven, but the whole world can't be as together as you are. Some people don't grow up with the best role models or resources and do what they have to do to survive. Everyone makes mistakes in life and it takes maturity to realize what they are. Having children is never a mistake and you don't even know how old he was when he had children so you should just keep your yuppie-ass opinion to yourself. I think YOU shouldn't have children because you would just teach them how to be a judgmental piece of shit who only complains about societal problems and doesn't do a damn thing about it. But you're not alone, even the jackass who reported this story stuck in his stinkin opinion by mentioning Castro's checkered past in the same sentence as "best father ever". None of you know what kind of father he was. So only educated people with good jobs are good parents? HA! That's a laugh. And you, RCLTRH, displace all those New Yorkers for a nice meadow park? What, so you can walk your dog or go for a jog? Or buy a cheap plot of land so you can build another yuppie gallery or hipster restaurant. For your information that family came from Park Slope and like many others were forced out when you guys started flooding in. But no, they can't even have the projects? You wanna take that away from them, too, for your damn meadow park? What the hell is a meadow park anyway? And by the way I see PLENTY yuppies (i.e. educated people with good jobs) buying drugs, so don't blame the low guy on the totem pole. And Steven it's none of your damn business if his girlfriend does or doesn't use birth control. Maybe you should have a talk with your mother about who should use birth control. If you can't stand the heat get the hell out of Brooklyn or if you have the balls do something about it instead of judging and criticizing people from the safety of your desk. You should also talk to your mother about having respect for the dead.

"The greatest father ever?" You mean he wouldn't have been a better dad if he didn't have a record, or didn't get fired from being a janitor?

  • rcltrh

Ill say it again. East New York and Brownsville should be bulldozed and made into a nice meadow park instead of the killing field they are today.
