A young Brooklyn woman is in critical condition after being slammed into by a van driven by a drunk driver while she was walking out of work Thursday night. 22-year-old Ukranian immigrant Olga Skibina suffered severe brain, facial and lung injuries after being struck by the van while walking from the medical office she works as a receptionist at in Sheepshead Bay, walking along Avenue Z to her home in Gerritsen Beach.
Police have arrested 45-year-old Zachary Kitt of Coney Island, who they say blew a .25 at the scene of the accident. Kitt is being charged with vehicular assault, drunken driving and reckless driving. The News says that Kitt's record shows convictions for drugs and driving without a license. They talk to Skibina's stepfather who says, "It's just impossible — how people can drive like that?"

Poor girl. :(
If the charges are true, the driver shouldn't be let out of jail. I'll bet he had priors. A life and a family is devastated, there can be no extenuating circumstances. Hard time is the only penalty. If he was served while he was drunk, the license should be lifted. We're much too easy on these lowlifes.
Drunk drivers should be flogged in public.
In the middle of Times Square. This guy should be locked up forever. If not then he should not be allowed to drive ever again after a very very long jail sentence.
If guilty, he should be thrown in jail for the rest of his life. If he's going to be let out of jail while alive, his hands and feet should be amputated to prevent his ever operating a motor vehicle again.
Was this the pig DWI case? Off duty pig pulled that chit last night. Not sure if this is same case though?
A different drunk driving idiot.
Pigs? What are you some moldy, old Weather Underground left-over?
He's a Commie.
I wish Balack Hussein Osama would go for a walk every now and then in an area plagued by drunk drivers.
your spelling isn't smart. it's pathetic. Just like your views.
If you're going to attack someone's spelling, at least get your capitalization right. Amateur.
Another very sad accident in this neighborhood. Maybe this will change how some people in that community feel about traffic safety. With fifteen pedestrian fatalities between 1995 and 2005, it is one of the top 3 deadliest Brooklyn communities to walk in (crashstat.org). Yet when traffic safety improvements like medians are proposed, they send them out on a rail: http://www.gerritsenbeach.net/2008/02/14/green-streets-died-tonight/
"It's just impossible — how people can drive like that?" People DO drive like that all over this country. Our laws have to change to keep these offenders in jail and to stop the cycle of them getting off and killing again!!
