Some reporter was disgraceful enough to ask Mayor Bloomberg about his choice to take a helicopter to the U2 concert at Giants Stadium Thursday, when he could have, say, taken NJ Transit (ha) and left a smaller carbon footprint.
Hizzoner sarcastically snipped, "You know there are other ways to get around, different ways, some are more energy efficient. I could have walked and swum across the river as well, that would have used less." Keep pushing him, press pool; he's just a few impertinent questions away from throwing a chair at you.
The official line from City Hall? CityRoom reports, "Stu Loeser, Mr. Bloomberg’s chief spokesman, explained that the mayor was trying not to waste time. He had just wrapped up an event with Leonel Fernandez, the president of the Dominican Republic, in Washington Heights, and determined that, given the hour (8:25 p.m.) and the traffic, it would have been difficult for him to make it to the Meadowlands in a timely fashion. Hence the air route."

"when he could have, say, taken NJ Transit"
maybe he wanted to arrive before the concert ended?
i think it was very brave of Bloomberg to risk a collision with a small plane out of Teterboro Airport just to see a U2 appearance. aircraft originating at Teterboro are the natural enemies of the river helicopters.
This guy becomes more of a douche every time he opens his mouth.
What about all the carbon footprint of Bloomberg's unending, unsolicited campaign mailings?
I swear to God I've had to do twice as many trips to the trash chute lately, on the strength of the Bloomberg mail spam alone.
When this man takes office for the third time he will have proven his own point that the electorate is overwhelmingly stupid, and therefore undeserving of the right to vote. People usually get what they deserve in life; and unfortunately the majority of NY'ers are too dumb to realize that they are so immensely unimportant to him and are mere pawns in his game.
I love the irony, and absolute hypocrisy of the fact that as he travels to bray at the arse of the global warming minstrel he is doing so by chopper. You have to love the limousine liberal effect. Personally I think the whole global warming issue is questionable, but Delaunay I'm with you just given the number of trees this cocksucker has killed, and the amount of unnecessary trash he is creating.

Maybe part of the problem is that there really are no truly good choices. Would Thompson be better? Maybe, maybe not. But Bloomberg really shouldn't have changed the rules late in the game, especially when the public doesn't want him to. But the public is stupid in so many other ways. They're so gullible about smear campaigns. In fact, they look for excuses to trash the reputations of candidates. Any wonder why intelligent, decent people don't run for high office?
Personally, if it were me, I would have said, "Hey, Bono. I don't want to waste gasoline. Send me a DVD of the performance, okay? Thanks." Then again, I don't like U2. But most live performances are overrated anyway.
No. 1: Live performances are the way of the future if you are going to be in the music business. You can not make money on album sales when recording studios are in charge.
No. 2: No way, no how will MB get my vote. He is not as indispensable as he so egotistically proclaims; NYC is too expensive even for a family like mine who is in the 95% of income in this country to rent in, let alone purchase in; the cost of EVERYTHING is going up, esp transportation including MTA and bridges/tolls. Sometimes I believe he wants all the riff-raff out of NYC so only the rich can afford to play on his playground.
He does not have the interest of the common man at heart. He is FOS when he proclaims he cares for the average NY'er. There is no trust left.
yes, there really have not been any good choices. the mayoral election morass reminds me of the scenario we had on the presidential level when the democrats offered options that unfortunately had some real problems connecting with the public: kerry, dean, gore (who may have had a some good policies in mind, but failed to convince enough of the public to over ride voting obstacles), dukakis etc.. here in nyc we have been offered freddy ferrer, mark green, ruth messinger, etc. argh!
man, the term limits issue is enough to vote for anyone with a pulse but bloomberg!!!!
the real problem is that he should never have been allowed to run for a third term in the first place. There were two separate referendums about removing term limits in NYC. The city voters twice agreed to keep the term limits, but the City Council decided that pleasing Mr Bloomberg was more important to them than was accurately representing the voters of NYC, and they agreed to overturn the two referendum votes permitting Bloomberg to thumb his nose at the NYC residents (once again).
What a dumb and obnoxious question. I would have thrown a chair at the reporter.
"the electorate is overwhelmingly stupid" that point was proven years before Bloomberg was elected.
"In the name of shamelessness, one man in the name of shamelessness..."
As another short, Jewish media guy once said ...
"It's good to be the king!" [Mel Brooks]
how many times can voters be phuked up the ass before they can feel they're being phuked up the ass?
even in NYC we have people who vote against their own self interest.
I'm sorry but the Bono and Gore Bloomberg ads are making me barf.
what happened to that department of buildings bribe corruption scandal? you know, the one where the city tipped off the people who's about to be arrested?
and, the mayor then says they've resigned.
yeah, they've resigned with full benefits.
How much is he paying to shove his ads down my throat on this site?
i still remember that load of bull. i found this site with a bunch of the shady stuff that bloomberg tried to pull on our city www.nycnot4sale.com. i love it.
