Arrest In Bronx Mom's Murder

2009_09_bxsh.jpg Earlier this week, a woman was fatally shot when she was caught in the middle of afternoon crossfire in the Bronx. Aisha Santiago, 25, had been on her way to the laundromat with her 9-year-old son and managed to push him out the gunfire. Now, a man has been arrested and charged with her murder.

Daily News reports that Jose Diaz, 25, was charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bail. According to the Bronx DA's office, Diaz was "aiming at a 16-year-old on Sept. 22 in Mott Haven when he accidentally hit Santiago." His "intended target, Robert Vargas, a junior at Taft High School, was arraigned early Friday morning on a lesser charge of attempted murder for hitting a third man involved in the shootout in the leg."

Right after the shooting, Santiago's sister had a message for the shooters, "I hope you son of b----es get caught. You not only took away my sister, you took away my mother's youngest child. I hope you are prosecuted to the fullest extent and get whatever you deserve."

"Sons of bitches" seems about right. Their mothers are not much different from dogs in heat. They just wanted to do it, unable to anticipate the consequences of their pregnancies and their inability to raise their children to be responsible, civilized members of society.

And before anyone gets huffy that this is racism, I'd say the term applies just as well to Bernie Madoff's mother, who likewise never taught her son to distinguish right from wrong.
