Feds: Terror Suspect Zazi Planned Attack For 9/11/09

Federal prosecutors are now suggesting that the beauty-supply bomb plot in which Najibullah Zazi has been implicated was supposed to take place on September 11, 2009. Federal attorney Tim Neff said in court today there was "a chilling, disturbing sequence of events that suggest the defendant was intent on making a bomb and being in New York on 9/11 for the purposes of using such an item.” Zazi rented a car in Denver and drove to New York September 9-10.

However, the NY Times also quotes Zazi's lawyer, who pointed out that Zazi was in New York City on September 11th, and "nothing occurred." Though the FBI had been watching him for some time, they did not detain him in New York nor did they prevent him from boarding a plane when he flew back to Denver a few days later. He was finally brought in for questioning once he was back in Colorado; here's a timeline from the Washington Post.

Zazi is currently being transferred to Eastern District Court in Brooklyn as suspected. He is expected to be arraigned tomorrow or Monday.

this is probably all just a distraction... why else would he turn himself in?

So much for NYPD "blowing this one".

If this is for real, the "senior" NYPD officer - Paul Ciorra - who was just transferred out of the unit for tipping the Iman is a freakin hero.

WTF are you talking about? The FBI was already watching Zazi. They were hoping to gather enough evidence to arrest his accomplices before arresting him.

Zazi certainly doesn't seem all that bright. Like no one's going to notice a bearded Afghani guy buying 12 bottles of developer for his "girlfriends".
