MTA Ripping You Off? There's An App For That

Someone's created a new iPhone app with straphangers in mind. It's called MetroCost and it "can help you determine how much money you're saving (or losing) with an Unlimited Ride versus a Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard. All you need to do is swipe across the (picture of a) magnetic strip each time you ride, and MetroCost will do all the math for you." Now, can we get one that tells you when the MTA keeps the change?

if you use a Mac, download the Camino browser (www.caminobrowser.org) to block any website ads. Makes browsing much more pleasant!

waaahhh, my job is blocking all of these ads. :(

    this sucks.

Seriously. I actually wrote to Gothamist about this and they gave me a good tongue lashing about how those ads pay for our free news. It really looks like im looking at flash porn most of the time here at work.

To which you retort that our viewing of said free news is what drives up their page counter, thus justifying their ability to secure said advertisements.

If the ads drive people away, page views go down, and ad revenue consequentially drops is Gothamist staff going to give us further tongue lashings?

Conversely, if you don't like the ads then encourage businesses that you support to advertize here and then tell the inevitable whiners to STFU.

And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get rid of the seizure inducing Bloomberg ad.

I agree, at least get some other ads on this site to rotate in so its not there every damn time.

Can we please get rid of this 15 year old American Apparel girl showing off her flat ass?

Most of us are on this website at work and it kinda looks like child porn.

(before someone suggests adblock or other ad-ons, there are work related circumstances that prevent me from installing)

  • Kaylee

Seriously. Sometimes I just ditch the story if those damn ads are obnoxious... which most of the time they are.

  • Mookie Wilson

Sweet! Thanks dude- I have AdBlocker installed on my machine, so I never even knew that the American Apparel ad was on this page. I just disabled it. Damn I love AP ads, I think it's a character flaw. Shake dat Suga!
