A few hours ago, police locked down East 14th Street and Union Square East, due to some "suspicious packages." (Not surprising, especially given the alleged
recent terror plot.) Before the packages were eventually "cleared" by the cops, some folks Twittered about the incident:
- LauraDuBois: "Terriost threat in Union Square. Entire area just got blocked off. Unknown package. No officers giving straight answers."
- kommik: "Suspicious package in Union Square. Cops getting power trips cuz it's their one bright shining moment."
- ezrabg: ..."I saw someone in an EOD suit around 9:30pm on the southeast side of Union Square."
- barvonblaq: "Bomb threat in union square just ruined a comedy show I was about to do. Someone saw something AND said something."
- mattmacdonald: "Union Square is in total police lockdown. And I bet it's because a tourist dropped a suspicious fanny pack."
Earlier in the week, the
Port Authority was locked down, due to a suspicious package.
