A few hours ago, police locked down East 14th Street and Union Square East, due to some "suspicious packages." (Not surprising, especially given the alleged recent terror plot.) Before the packages were eventually "cleared" by the cops, some folks Twittered about the incident:
  • LauraDuBois: "Terriost threat in Union Square. Entire area just got blocked off. Unknown package. No officers giving straight answers."
  • kommik: "Suspicious package in Union Square. Cops getting power trips cuz it's their one bright shining moment."
  • ezrabg: ..."I saw someone in an EOD suit around 9:30pm on the southeast side of Union Square."
  • barvonblaq: "Bomb threat in union square just ruined a comedy show I was about to do. Someone saw something AND said something."
  • mattmacdonald: "Union Square is in total police lockdown. And I bet it's because a tourist dropped a suspicious fanny pack."
Earlier in the week, the Port Authority was locked down, due to a suspicious package.

Sheesh...picking on harmless Muslims again.

How do you know the suspicious package was Muslim?

"Bomb threat in union square just ruined a comedy show I was about to do. "

"Suspicious package in Union Square. Cops getting power trips cuz it's their one bright shining moment."

"Union Square is in total police lockdown. And I bet it's because a tourist dropped a suspicious fanny pack."

These people need a reality check.

that's interesting, what reality check do they need? i don't agree with the second quote, but what's wrong with the other two?

good thing you're here to suggest a reality check, but not actually say anything of value. please, enlighten us.

psy-op on the citizen scum

.... until the next bomb goes off somewhere in Manhattan and you all complain why the police didn't do more to protect us.

Did anyone listen to Brian Lehrer a few days ago when he had the security writer for the Daily News on? The guy they arrested, a few days before his arrest, was trying to rent a 23-foot Uhaul truck. 23-feet long. God knows what the hell he was going to pack into that thing. And they're still looking for a group of others that were working with him, but still are unknowns.

So if there's abit more security over the next few days, I'm cool with that if it keeps me from getting blown up on the F train.

But think of all the hilarious comedy shows we'll miss out on!

The cops are doing what they need to do on the street level and hopefully on the investigative level as well. From now on, though, let's try not to tip off a suspect so that he can warn his pals.

Dirty bum leaves box of soda cans next to garbage can - NYU students in a state of panic - film at 11.

In light of the NYT report that infers that dissidents blew up a restaurant in China a week before an election, methinks that we should blame those pinko Commies for this "atrocity."
