Bed Bugs SHUT DOWN At Least One John Jay College Building

092509bedbug.jpg Students arriving for class this afternoon at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice building at 445 West 59th Street were greeted by a worker using a bullhorn to warn them: Stay away! Bed bugs! Classes canceled! Basically, the school's gripped with panic and they're one step away from painting a giant red "B" on the front door. After employees complained of itchy rashes this week, the administrators called in one of those trained dogs, who turned up the pests on the first three floors.

The building will be closed until at least Tuesday for extermination. Good luck with that! But John Jay spokesman Jim Grossman tells City Room the building isn't infested, it just has a "condition." See, "Infestation is when you can see them swarming." Which must make John Jay students feel very secure and warm inside. On the other hand, "No test today!"

I could see NYU not shutting classes down. And I could definitely see those midwest brats carting them all over the city as a result.

Glad John Jay had the good sense to treat the situation with the care and caution it demands.

I mean screw h1n1 that's just flu... bed bugs scare the crap outta me... may as well be a house fire that itches instead of burns.

they are closed monday anyway. This is just a great excuse for everyon there to get a 5 day weekend.
