Will the standard Hawaiian shirt uniform of Trader Joe's employees soon be hitting Chelsea? Reportedly the store is in discussions to open a shop at the Mattel Building, located at 675 Sixth Avenue, between 21st and 22nd streets. That's only 11 blocks from the flagship TJ's in Union Square, but we doubt this will help with that laborious line.

Isn't the next TJ's set to open on W72.BWAY? They're almost done there with construction.
bring it on... NY'ers ♥ TJ's!
yes!
Makes sense. I would shudder to find out how much money they lose at the USq location from people like myself who cringe and walk out when they see the insanity inside. A second nearby store might alleviate that slightly. Maybe not.
What's the big deal about getting your groceries at TJ's? Status? Trendy? Is food!
Never got the Trader Joe's thing. They have some nice items, but in a town with Fairways, Zabars, Garden of Eden, West Side Market and numerous other "gourmet stores" I don't understand why people go crazy over another in the same vein.
Well for starters Trader Joe's is a lot cheaper than those other places. I'm always amazed by how little I spend there, even on days when I have several full bags to lug home. Plus I think they give their employees happy pills. Everyone is always so nice and perky.

Don't count those free-range chickens yet, folks. I moved to NY from Chicago, and if I had a nickel for every time there was a rumor about a new TJ's opening "just up the street", I'd own a loft in SoHo. People in every neighborhood get so excited at the idea there could be one, all it takes is for one person to speculate out loud and then everyone is telling their playground coffee klatch all about it.
I've also heard speculation that TJ's starts these rumors in order to gauge the appeal in certain areas (which they can track on the internet through blogs and articles like this), which they can use to leverage the deal a little more on the tail end.
Oh, and no W. 72nd & Bway, either.
