Pratt to Fort Greene: We Can Keep You Out

There was much rancor recently when Pratt announced it would restrict its campus to students and faculty. The university has long described the grounds as an "urban oasis" for the community, so locals are surprised about the sudden change. Some speculated that Pratt couldn't legally restrict access, because city streets were absorbed by the campus in the '50s. Well, The Local did some digging and learns that there is in fact no such requirement. Pratt can and will exclude you.

Pratt is in Clinton Hill, not Fort Greene.

Actually, at 2:45pm The Local issued a mea culpa update that they were talking about the wrong streets (pointed out by readers in their comments). They said they're going back to the city to find out specifically about the streets within the campus.

Um, maybe you should click back on a story before lifting it for your blog

    As the NYT states now,

Anyway, disregard this morning’s post. We’ve gone back to City Planning to ask them what the deal is with the former blocks that actually run through the Pratt campus. And we will read what they send us with a fine-tooth comb before posting again.

They reserve the right to kick you off if you are creating a disturbance. That's about as much and as far as they will exercise this new power. It'd be a PR disaster.

this is why we can't have nice things.

It would not seem to be so difficult, and also good community relations and positve PR, for Pratt to set up some kind of ID system for local residents who provide some basic information, to allow access to their campus grounds. They can keep out the creeps, and still allow some of the locals to enjoy that "urban oasis".
