Breaking: Frappuccinos Are High in Calories

Your tax dollars have enabled the Health Department to conclude a groundbreaking study on the calorie counts of beverages at Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts. And what they found might shock you: Calories in blended coffee beverages are high. The report is the prelude to another study due out next spring, which is expected to show if New Yorkers were affected by rules requiring chains like Starbucks to display calorie counts. Back in 2007, the average customer consumed 12% of a 2,000-calorie a day diet on beverages alone.

Will the government please get the hell out of the nanny business! It only adds insult to injury that I have to pay for this idiocy with my hard earned dollars too.

Its either this or you'll pay anyway in higher insurance premiums, and if they have no health insurance, tax dollars.

Though I'm not sure what good this will do to help smokers quit.

at least there is more calcium AND protein in a frappuccino than a donut. score!!!

This study has a purpose. They're doing a follow-up after the restaurants were required to display calorie counts in order to see whether people are opting for healthier choices.

If one was really concerned about what they intake, then they are probably already aware of the calorie, sugar, blah blah blah numbers in the food and beverages out there. For most of the citizens they probably couldn't care less. So why does the government keep pounding away at these facts?

Why not spend tax payer dollars to study what the NYPD eats. Maybe they can find out why they are so slow to respond to emergencies.

I know my SB Frapps are calorie-laden!!!! ...and I drinking them! Please butt out of my health. I only drink them on occasion and mostly inthe warm summer months. Is this to imply ppl arent aware of the caloric content?!?!

Please spend money on rescuing kittens. they need our help!!!

exactly! this was no surprise! as long as you consume things like this in moderation (ie: not every day, 3x a day...), then you should be fine

The one problem with calorie counts is that the impact can be counter-intuitive. When you're looking at the menu and do the calories vs. dollars math in your head, you kinda expect the food with less calories should cost less too. Would you pay the same price for a sandwich that had 220 calories over one that had 440? "Hey! I'm getting twice as much eats for my dollar!"

More like the Health Duh-partment.

I disagree with you all. I regularly keep track of the calories I consume. With packaged food or plain foods (an apple) it is easy, but restaurant foods typically have more hidden fat and sugar and calories than you would expect. That's what makes you keep coming back. Unless you care about how many calories you consume, that is.

I forget that you guys are mostly younger than me. Calories become more important as you get older and gain weight more easily. I definitely WOULD pay more for a 220 calorie sandwich than a 440 calorie sandwich. Because I have self-respect and want to fit into my clothes.

I went to Chili's (for the last time) shortly after the law took effect. My god! Every entre there is in the 1800-2400 calorie range. That is more than a day's worth for me.

hey i'm young and i appreciate the calorie track. i was out of the city recently and was pissed not to have the posted counts.

yeah, many people dieting might already know the nutrition when they go out, but the rest of us want to at least make semi-good decisions.

take the SB frap. a "Mint Mocha Chip Frappuccino" can run you nearly 500 cal for a small. now, i know its bad, but i had no idea it was THAT bad. so instead of a spur moment purchase i go for the coffee frap Light for only 130 cal.

nobody's getting in my space. no government intruding. just getting me some coffee. thats all

How about drinking a heated bottle of Canada Dry Club soda instead?

What a frikin' waste of money!! And this is "groundbreaking"?

You needed scientists to tell you these are high-calorie drinks? You needed scientists to tell you that by making them smaller or substituting whip cream with milk and gum you drop the calories?

These drinks are created because fat and sugar sell.
