Bloomberg on Gay Marriage: I Could Get GOP Sens to Change Teams

2009_09_bloomberggayflag.jpg Mayor Bloomberg thinks that he could strong-arm local Republican state senators into voting for a gay marriage bill, but he doesn't seem to believe that the Democrats have the cajones to bring Governor Paterson's same-sex marriage legislation to the floor. Asked why he thought he could change the minds of some pretty staunch GOP gay marriage opponents, Bloomberg said, “I’m the main funder. You know, you can’t dictate every piece of legislation, and I don’t want to say that they’re bribable. But they know where I stand, and they want me to be a supporter.

In a candid interview with Gay City News, Bloomberg was addressing the possibility to sway senators such Martin Golden of Brooklyn and Frank Padavan of Queens, who have both spoke out against Governor Paterson's gay marriage stances. But the mayor thinks he could get them to vote yes because of the huge checks he's written to GOP senate campaigns. However Bloomberg doesn't think he'll be put to the test because he puts the chances of the bill reaching the floor at "zero, zero" and says, “I don’t know how to get it to come up...when I don’t see (state senators) willing to stand up for less controversial issues.”

The mayor seemed to be giving the hard sell to the LGBT community as he heads down the home stretch of his reelection campaign. In trying to contrast himself from opponent Bill Thompson as not having to cater to some of Thompson's more socially conservative supporters, Bloomberg said, “Maybe it’s the fact that I’m independently wealthy and I’m 67 years old, but my attitude is if you want me, you want me.”

Mr. Bloomberg, you wont get my vote. Who do you think you are... third term? LOL

You are only for the rich. not for poor underclass like myself working in fast food restaurants.

  • NannyState

So tell us: did it hurt?

  • verbal

This is proof positive that anybody who votes for this scoundrel is too stupid to have the right to vote.

He's gone way beyond his normal deranged narcissism, and ventured into complete megalomania.

Yes, he does look a bit like Golem lately, doesn't he?

Now that I have carefully picked apart Sojourn's incredibly nuanced and well-thought-out opinions, I will discuss the contents of the actual article:

While it's nice that Bloomberg is pushing Gay Marriage, he is once again approaching the matter in a politically tone-deaf manner. "They'll vote for it because I'm going to bribe them" isn't exactly the classiest pick-up line. Something about it reminds me of Spitzer... "take this money, and do exactly what I tell you too!"

What sad, lonely, rich men. Somebody return this guy's sled already.

    no.

Yes, these people are targeting our children. From a very young age, they indoctrinate them in their ways. They want access to children in our schools. They claim to be persecuted but have their claws around politicians to promote their goals. If they have children, they make their children be just like them. Do they ever give the children a choice? No.

I am, of course, talking about Christian zealots like our friend Sojourn.

The homosexual will even say he or she have picked up homosexual acts from around his or her environment. So if you show this child abusive way, her kids mental out look will be immoral, corrupt, and debased from natural being.

  • Qraymond

    no.

    Good People of America,

Stand up and defend moral values. Defend child abuse. Save our Children!

    STOP Homosexuality!

Are there others of "god's children" you hate equally? While I realize we shouldn't feed the trolls, you make me sick. You call for hate and hide behind the work of fiction called the bible. Your attacks on people who aren't like you, people who don't blindly follow a lost cause called "religion", people who don't let others think for them, is sad.

Go crawl back under your rock, hide your head from the real world. And go fuck yourself!

  • Qraymond

defend child abuse? what are you, nuts?

  • Sojourn

you need to do more thinking on what is discrimination and what act are immoral and unlawful. If an act is immoral or unlaw , we should not permit it. Corruption comes to mind...

    Let's think about it.....

  • Qraymond

    no.

  • Sojourn

Homosexuality was always seen as a psychological problem.

To think of getting married is STUPID, CRAZY, AND DECEITFUL.

  • chopp3r

Well, I kinda agree with the second part...

  • Qraymond

    no.

  • Sojourn

    Bloomberg is for Homosexual marriage.

SO, Bloomberg must be for corrupting our children.

  • David

    no.
