"Keep Fucking That Chicken" Double Standard?

F-bombers, away! From left, Arthur Chi'en, Sue Simmons and Ernie Anastos (with co-anchor Dari Alexander)

Everyone loves to "Keep fucking that chicken!" Well, at least say the bizarre yet irresistible catch phrase coined by WNYW Fox 5 anchor Ernie Anastos. If it's not Jon Stewart being jealous that Anastos got to use it first, then it's the Reverend Al Sharpton guessing that term's meaning. The Reverend told City Room, "It could be a kind of phrase: ‘Well, keep doing what you are doing. Keep going after it.' Even if you are tired or distracted, keep on doing that chicken, that kind of thing." We don't think fatigue or distraction will ever keep us from saying "Keep fucking that chicken!" (and then giggling for a few minutes).

Former mayor Ed Koch also spoke to City Room, "It has a nice sound to it. It could become a phrase that people could use." Maybe the "nice sound" is why Anastos hasn't been reprimanded—the Post points out that while WNYW vice president Lew Leone expressed disappointment in the anchorman's f-bomb chicken combo, he, "news director Dianne Doctor and station President Dennis Swanson all held the exact same positions at Channel 2 in 2005 when they axed" Arthur Chi'en, who yelled two Opie & Anthony fools, "What the fuck's your problem, man?" (Video after the jump.) It later turned out that an arbitrator found CBS 2 shouldn't have fired Chi'en. Chi'en is now a reporter at WPIX Channel 11.

The Post reports, "A Channel 5 rep yesterday declined to discuss any parallels between Chi'en and Anastos, who has not been disciplined, at least as of" Thursday night. Then again, when beloved WNBC 4 anchor Sue Simmons dropped the f-bomb during a pre-new broadcast promo (video also after the jump) while off-camera, she wasn't fired either.

WCBS... WNBC... WNYW — this means that WABC is next! If only Steve Bartelstein were still on, though maybe that would be too predictable.

I love this. Sue Simmon's is my favorite. For some reason the shot of that boat with her saying "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING" over it cracks me up every time.

All three are different. Anastos simply misspoke, bungling the pronunciation of the obviously intended word. Simmons and Chi'en both intentionally cursed someone out, but in Simmons' case her claim that she didn't know it was a live shot was accepted by management. Chi'en clearly did know that he was live.

I don't think he should have been fired (basically what he did wrong was put too much faith in the reaction times of the director and cameraman), but I can understand them looking at it as a different type of violation.

Ernie's comment was the classiest, you can't fire that kind of class.

There are three types of obscenities on air.

1. Meaning to say it, knowing you're on TV. This is obviously the worst, and the one that sometimes merits firing.

2. Meaning to say it, but forgetting / not knowing you're on TV. This is not as bad, but still shows poor judgment -- just like every gun should be assumed to be loaded, every camera should be assumed to be on.

3. Trying to say something totally different, and getting tongue-tied. "Dot.cock" and "keep f***ing that chicken" -- obviously neither was what he was trying to say. Just got his letters tangled. This is totally innocent.

People need to get over it, seriously.

This is way too funny to get over. I don't think there's even one person who was actually offended by the slip -- but, come on, "keep fucking that chicken?" That's high-larious.

I know I'm being persnickety but:
"...Arthur Chi'en who yelled two Opie & Anthony fools, "What the fuck's your problem, man?"
Two, as in "to" or two as in "to two of the Opie and Anthony fools..."

Ernie Anastos is a classic because it just doesn't make sense!

Thanks for posting all the potty mouths caught on camera!

Sue Simmons probably talks to the hired help like that on a daily basis, so for her is it part of her everyday lingo.

This is another Sue Simmons classic - when she falls out of her chair after listening to Brian Williams
