There have been too many headlines penned about crimes against women in the city's clubs. Inside Edition has now gone undercover, placing hidden cameras inside what they dub the "trendiest clubs" here. Their investigation lasted a month, during which time they also surveyed women on their safety. They report back that "42% of women surveyed have felt threatened by men inside or outside a bar or nightclub." The show obtained the below footage taken from Marquee's surveillance camera about five months ago, showing a female's limp body being dragged out of the club by a man, who kidnapped and raped her.
The man in the video is 39-year-old Luis Zambrano, who pleaded guilty to the charge earlier this month. Lisa Friel, the Chief of the Manhattan District Attorney's Sex Crimes Unit, told the show, "Zambrano is not unusual. The fact that we have him on videotape is the unusual part. Not a week goes by that we don't get one of these cases coming into the unit to investigate." According to their study, "13% said they woke up somewhere after a night of drinking at a club and had no idea how they got there." WHERE AM I????
IS THIS REAL LIFE?
AAAHHHHHHHH!!!!
This club is selling a t-shirt that reads: I came to see an NFL star shoot himself in the leg, and all I got was drugged.
I waited in line for hours, made it though face control, and all I got was raped.
I work next to Marquee and it's a constant problem for the neighborhood.
That video is so disturbing. A few years ago a friend of mine and I had to peel a guy off a girl who was too drunk to notice he was taking her home. We had been talking to her all night and he showed up at last call to collect the drunk women. Scary shit.
I'm wondering where this woman's friend's are. Not that it's anyone's fault but this dude's that she got raped. Definitely not suggesting that. But I just wonder why she was so alone there. It certainly should be ok to go out alone, but unfortunately it just isn't. We gotta watch out for each other.
Maybe she was slipped a roofie.
LADIES: Don't take drinks from strangers. Don't leave your drink and then go back to it. Don't get so piss-drunk that you are passed out ANYWHERE.
If you see a girl like this, watch out for her. Put her in a cab home. Do something.
Put her in a cab home? where is that? maybe I could find out by looking in her wallet?
Now I look even more creeper!!!
Well, hey. Most people just do nothing. So you know, that's an option.
After my table waiting shift ended one night I was walking through the parking lot and found a girl (shit you not) lying on the ground in the middle of the lot in the dark and crying, over and over again she was saying "I'm so devistated!" She was so messed up I'll never forget it. I still wonder if I should have called the cops because she very well could have been waking up from a roofie or something even worse.
Anyway, I hailed a cab and asked her if she could remember where she lived. Turned out we were in the same neighborhood.
Long story short I put her in the cab with me- like actually rolled her in al the while wondering "how the hell do I get myself into these things?" She cried the whole way and kept asking me "where am I?" The cab driver was saying "hey! If your friend thows up in the cab you're paying for it!" I was like, "uh. I actually don't know her. but okay...." It was probably fate that we lived only three blocks from each other. Hopefully she doesn't remember too much. Poor thing. I still wonder about her.
"think about staying in tonight, ladies" -- really? should i wear my burqa when i go out on the streets, too?
i'm sure the WHOLE problem is all of the womenfolk out there dangling their bodies in front of these poor men that simply cannot keep themselves from sexually assaulting them. how about a little culpability for the men? maybe, say, don't grab a woman from a nightclub and assault her?
"how about a little culpability for the men?"
God, yes, SERIOUSLY.
Reminds me of a post that got passed around a few weeks ago, what with colleges coming back into session:
Sexual Assault Prevention Tips Guaranteed to Work!
"5. If you are in an elevator and someone else gets in, DON’T ASSAULT THEM!"
When you really start to think about the flip side of so many of those "Prevention Tips" that women are actually taught, it gets a little absurd.
you know what, when i get paid i don't get drunk & walk around with my cash in my hands.
Yeah, but you don't get paid every single day of your life.
me man no understand rools! rools make me angry! WHY ELEVATOR NOW????
Why do women even go to nightclubs? Nightclubs have to be the sleeziest places to meet guys.
i liked that rape prevention list. They should do one for killing.
#1. Don't kill someone.
...
Theres no defense for the assholes who actually get away with this shit. It's disgusting.
But if you're not smart enough to watch your own ass in a club, then so be it....
You know what's fucked up? If this guy had been walking out with a fucking bar stool or a wall fixture he would have been stopped in seconds...
This is a clip from Animal Planet.
I'm not usually the blame the victim guy, but... it may not be a good idea to go a club by yourself, get shitfaced and fall asleep. Just a thought.
If she didn't go there by herself, the lady needs some new friends. If I'm at a bar, even if I met you 2 minutes ago, and I saw you passing out, I'd make sure you took a cab home, not left you sprawled out to get some coke in the bathroom. Oh and I wouldn't leave you with any cops, cause you know what happens when cops take a drunk lady home...
The sad thing..and really odd thing..about this is the fact that the city went to such great lengths to completely shut down the precursor scene to this. Clubs like limelight, tunnel, vinyl, Twilo, the second sound factory all got shut down and these places like Marquee and the rest of the bottle service shitholes came to fill the void and are even worse.
At least the little raver kids just ate pills and acted like 5 year olds. It was rarely sinister (at least like this) although probably as debauched.
Who goes to these places???
