Asian Voters Turned Out For Primary Elections

2009_09_mchin.jpg While voter turnout for Tuesday's primary elections was really low—the NY Times suggests it could be the "lowest in modern New York City history"—one group did use their electoral muscle. In another article, the Times reports that aside from John Liu's 38% showing in the Comptroller race, "Asian-American candidates won Democratic primaries in three City Council districts on Tuesday... Of the 51 Council districts, 32 had primaries on Tuesday. Turnout in the three districts where Asian-Americans won was among the highest in the city: 17 to 18 percent, compared with a citywide average of 11 percent, according to the Board of Elections." Margaret Chin (pictured) defeated incumbent Alan Gerson for Council District 1; Yen Chou won the primary for Liu's old Council seat in Flushing; and Korean-American Kevin Kim won Tony Avella's old Council seat in northeast Queens. Hunter College sociologist Margaret Chin (no relation to the pol) said, "It’s significant for the whole population to see all these Asian-Americans taking political roles for the first in public. The West Coast broke this barrier close to two decades ago."

Good news, that's a demographic that has been historically underrepresented.

Agreed. Good to see the Asian-American community organizing to have a strong political voice.

this is good news, finally.
when I worked as a poll worker say 10 years ago, I saw mostly Asian senior citizens voting. I would hope the younger generation knows how important the voting process is and not feel apathetic towards it.
and it's nice to hear from newly sworn in citizens how they can now vote.

The bad news is that almost every one of these "winners" has been associated with mainland chinese communist groups, law firms repping the chi comms, and one of them thinks North Korea is paradise.

Nice work, NY Dems - you have almost completed your process of destroying NYC and America from within.

City Council winners backed by chi comms and north korea?

Rrrriiiiggggttttt...
Their *obviously* communist sleeper agents...

So,um, are you a "Birther" too?

"Rrrriiiiggggttttt...'

I guess all of those articles are wrong. And I am sure you will post replies from the candidates COMPLETELY DENYING their links as described, AND their criticism of the CCP and NK.

"So,um, are you a "Birther" too?"

Um, are you an obamunist tool also?

How's that dope and strange working out for you? Got yourself a nice shovel–ready, union–make–work–job yet?

So, Would that be a "yes", you are a "Birther"?

BTW, watch out for the CAPS LOCK, the grammar nazis here are notorious, I know...

"How's that dope and strange working out for you? Got yourself a nice shovel–ready, union–make–work–job yet?"
Ooooooo, Did I touch a nerve and hurt your feelings? Um, Sorry about that. "union–make–work–job", not so much... and off topic.

"chi comms", "obamunist"...
Brilliant, that's really great! What else do you have? That has to be the first use of "obamunist" I've came across. Would that be a "socialist", "communist", "fascist" or some perverse combination of all three? (Did I miss any "ists"?)

Yes or No: Do you think these people are communist agents?

I really doubt you'll give a straight answer, probably continue with unrelated ad hominem arguments, etc.

@"JacqueMehoff" when you ask him (assuming, could be a lady) "how old are you?" Are you asking chronologically or mentally?
Just curious.

:", Sorry about that. "union–make–work–job", not so much... and off topic."

You should have thought of that when you went off topic with "birther".

(And the answer is no, even though we know more about Palin's menstrual cycle and Joe the Plumbers tax issues than we have on obozo's college transcripts, who paid for his education, etc.

And those articles didn't say they were sleepers, they noted their connections.

Are you back-dooring the idea that they may be sleepers?

Or are YOUR ad hominem attacks alinksyist (( : >) deflections because you don't want their connections discussed?

Maybe you prefer communist control over NYC govt?

Will you charge for the bullets you put in the heads of those you dare complain?

"Palin's menstrual cycle"
...
...
Ooookkkkk, can we just agree on one thing and never go there again!?!? TMFI!

Back on discussion (Semi at any rate):
"than we have on obozo's college transcripts, who paid for his education, etc."
"obozo"?
(sigh)
I'm atempting to take you seriously, but honestly, silly crap like that isn't helping.

"And those articles didn't say they were sleepers, they noted their connections."
Which I think is irrelevant, overstated, and shared by members of the GOP too.

"Are you back-dooring the idea that they may be sleepers?"
Nope, it seemed like you were. My Bad.

"Or are YOUR ad hominem attacks alinksyist (( : >) deflections because you don't want their connections discussed?"
And you meant what by "Obamunist" exactly? Obviously, I like to discuss anything, especially civilly. Ever see me refer to Gov. Palin or Pres. GW Bush by some silly name? Nope. "Obamaunist"? "Obozo"? IMO, again, IMO, silly crap like that makes you looks childish.

"Maybe you prefer communist control over NYC govt?"
Nope, but aparently you imply there is a "red menace" here. Say, you're not trying to pull a Sen. Mcarthy act, are you?

"Will you charge for the bullets you put in the heads of those you dare complain?"
Ok, now you've completly jumped the shark. "bullets you put in the heads of those you dare complain"?
So now I'm out to kill people who disagree with me? Ignoring how big that list that would be, ignoring that lots of friends would be on it, I'm not exactly the murderous type.

Back on original topic: Without any Jingoist (and BS terms), what exactly is your problem with them?
Do you really believe they are "backed by chi comms and north korea"?

You're 100% right on John Liu who funneled money from China through Queens residents. John Liu lied about working in a sweatshop factory. He lies a lot. His is just like his father who was convicted of Bank Fraud

What does this have to do with PETA and abused kittens?

I believe he may be implying john liu eats carriage horses.

Ah, "felixthecat2", Still equating farm animals to Holocaust victims?

And Still stuck on caps I see...

Like with movie reviews, it's wise to consider the source of these articles. Everyone knows Epochtimes is a FuLan Gong propaganda paper, and the tones of the other articles don't exactly scream unbias writings.

While I am no fan of Obama nor the Democrats' free spending and high taxing liberal agenda, I am just happy to see an under-represented group is turning out to vote. We do need more moderate minded Asian politicians in the mix, someone who doesn't pal around with the likes of Sharpton.

a/ "Everyone knows Epochtimes is a FuLan Gong propaganda paper, and the tones of the other articles don't exactly scream unbias writings."

Because RC media is so unbiased...
/s

Falun Gong facts must be wrong because... they are persecuted by the RC?

b/ Shaprton is a piker compared to Liu and his backers.

Wow, I consider myself a Republican, but you're just bitter. Communist takeover of NYC? Unless 3rd term guaranteed Bloomie turns out to be the sleeper agent working for Kim Jung Il and funneling NYC tax revenue to NK through that Macau Bank. And can we even consider China a "communist" nation? Totalitarian dictatorship yes, but definitely not the old school communist nation we know and love.

You sound like a Republican, dumb as a dining room table. Look at Liu's contributions. It is transparent that most of his large donors funnel money. One of them even admitted that he collected money and bundle them as his own contribution. I hate fucking people who talk about shit they have no idea about. Liu has links to the CCP in China. He was flown by them to meet with them . He would love to be comptroller to dole out al the money to corrupt chinese companies that violate basic human rights. SO SHUT THE FUCK UP. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH KITTENS YOU DUMB ASS BIRTHIER.

I actually thought you're a Republican as well, a kitten hugging Republican.

I am going to have sea kitten for dinner tonight.

"Bloomie turns out to be the sleeper agent working for Kim Jung Il and funneling NYC tax revenue to NK through that Macau Bank"
Hey! That *would* make a great campaign sound bite!

"chi comms" how old are you?
what's next? "red china"?

"Someone using the handle "JacqueMehoff" questions my age, and my use of language? !

How sad that naive people like you have bought the "we must not call them Reds because it's not tolerant..."

THEY DON'T HAVE ELECTIONS NOR FREE MEDIA IN RED CHINA OR NORTH KOREA.

Do you have any idea how many websites you go to that ARE BANNED in RED CHINA AND NK? (and not just your bookmarked porn).

And you question my criticism of them as dictatorial communist regimes?

aren't you tired of NYC, so why don't you leave?
which is a favorite slogan for you folks, the love it or leave it meme.
but hey we all need bad guys or else how will the Right make a living? and, a very nice living. I'm surprised richard brookhiser is still around.

Well, true NYCers don't leave, they just stay, take their abuses and whine about them to anyone who'd listen. That's the NY style of coping.

"but hey we all need bad guys or else who will pay the taxes so the leftist welfare scum can make a living? and, a very nice living."

There fixed it for you.

But what about the "Right wing welfare scum" (They certainly do exist)?

OMG! Is NYC about to be ruled by Liu Chin Chou Kim?
