Man Shot In The Face At Brooklyn Deli

2009_09_flushdeli.jpg Yesterday morning, a shooting occurred at 345 Flushing Avenue at Classon, and in the afternoon, The Local reported, "The police say a 51-year-old man was shot three times and critically injured inside the Flushing Deli at 345 Flushing around 10:30 this morning. He was shot twice in the face and once in the shoulder and taken to Bellevue Hospital." Now the Daily News has more details: In spite of being shot, construction worker Brian Delamore, who has been working at a hotel site on Franklin Avenue, "managed to stagger out of the Flushing Deli in Clinton Hill before collapsing on the sidewalk, police and witnesses said." A deli worker said of the shooter, "There was no argument. The guy just came up to him." Delamore is still at Bellevue; it's unclear whether there is a motive. The incident occurred in the 79th Precinct (which says it represents the Bed-Stuy section).

why is everyone always being taken to Bellevue Hospital? Or are they several in New York?

I wondered the same thing until I broke my arm on 8th and 46th and the cab driver took me all the way to 27th and 1st. And yeah, I told him there was St. Lukes just up the street, but then we went to Bellvue. Yep, going for a little ride.

Anyhooo, I was waiting in the ER waiting room with the rest of the riff raff until the lazy people behind the counter jamming their face as fast as they could with potato chips saw that I had health insurance. All of a sudden I'm treated like a VIP and actually given some pain meds. Now we're talking.

As the doctor was attending to my arm I looked around and began noticing an absurd number of cops in the ER. Then, the cops rolled in a guy in four point resraints who was wearing an orange jumpsuit and screaming his head off.
Then, some more guys in handcuffs around their ankles and wrists with bashesd in faces walked in and they too were shuffeled off to the corner of the ER where all the other people in orange jumpsuits were.

Basically, Bellvue is like bedlam. It's the "free" hospital where the troublemakers go.

once again, i have to say you need to check your borders......this is NOT Clinton Hill, this is Bed-Stuy. I'm tired of everyone (the traditional media included) of putting chopped up body parts in suitcases and the like in Clinton Hill when these events are clearly taking place in other neighborhoods.

Clinton Hill goes from Washington to Bedford. I think that is pretty well agreed on. Classon counts, even if its on the west side of Myrtle. This corner in particular, right by the BQE, could be the border of South Williamsburg and CH. Not Bed Stuy. But alas, this is but one man's opinion.

I think that the whole "Clinton Hill" neighborhood is an invention by Pratt Institute to avoid telling prospective students that they will be living in Bed-Stuy. But, once you're living there, you realize you're really in Bed- Stuy.

Clinton Hill goes from Vanderbilt to Classon. Regardless of where this took place, it's a deli under a highway, which is a nice place to get shot in the face.

Geography arguments aside, any description of the shooter?

2 more cents, Clinton Hill IS a creation of many influences, like most of new york city, renamed in part to separate some of it's residents from a neighborhood less desired decades ago. And yes the boarders are argued but they are just as frequently moved. Despite that I recognize it cause hey, it takes too long to type Bedford-Stuyvesant (Bed-Stuy won't do) and even B'klyn's Finest get tired of swimming upstream(sometimes).

bigger geographic issue for me is, considering Brooklyn (taken in area) would be the sixth largest city in the country does it really make sense to headline "Man shot...Brooklyn Deli"

If I were shot in a deli under the 3rd avenue bridge on the Harlem River near 155th street, would it be clarifying enough to simply headline "Man shot in Manhattan Deli" I think not.

I live in this area and I consider it to be Clinton Hill/Bed-Stuy/S. Williamsburg/Navy Yard... when people ask me where i live, yes, i give this response. And I am a new-ish transplant to this particular few block radius, but I have lived in 11205+11238 for 7 years. So, as a member of this area, I've become alarmed about the recently reported violent acts of crime. Someone has already cited the box found on Walworth, full of a deceased person's limbs. i've asked for a follow up of this on this website and I haven't heard anything - any follow up would be great to know about. I also sent an email to The NYTimes Local and I haven't heard anything from them either. I suppose I should sate my own curiosity and call the 79th precinct myself - which i might just do... the purpose of my statements is that this area is under-represented. and yes, it is a desolate area with a good amount of industrial and manufacture-zoned properties, but there are residents here and we have a right to know what's going on.

Anyhow, back to the argument of the borders/neighborhood names... if you look up the NYPD's police precinct borders - http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/precinct_maps/precinct_maps.shtml - you can see that this particular intersection falls right at the crux of three precincts - 88th, 90th and 79th. and, correct me if i'm wrong, it seems like these precinct boundaries are somewhat in line with the loose neighborhood boundaries that we've adapted from City Planning. Looks like the police precincts were, in fact, created by City Planning as well... "These districts were created by the Department of City Planning to aid city agencies in administering public services." In conclusion, i sit on a border - as I choose to do, along with many marginalized people, whether they choose to or not... and as residents of this area, we have the right to be feel safe and to be informed.
