- In Balitmore, a Johns Hopkins student used a samurai sword to kill a man who broke into his off-campus garage. Apparently the student and his roommates had been robbed previously; police say the slain robber has other arrests for breaking and entering.
- Antonio Pierce said it's too early to get excited about the Giants' defense—"Week 1, week 1, week 1." Well, no one is excited about the Plax-less offense, so it's even.
- Long Island Rail Road service is suspended at Long Branch because a car somehow overturned on the track (photo).
- Yesterday, cabbies expressed their safety concerns at a summit in the Bronx.
- A city exterminator was busted for stripping copper piping from a vacant American Legion Hall in Staten Island while he should have been ridding the space of rats.
- The NJ Supreme Court is hearing arguments from school officials on searching students' cars when they are suspected of committing a crime.
