Will NY GOP Go For "Senator Giuliani"?

2009_09_rudygiuliani.jpg The Post reports, "Top state Republicans will urge former Mayor Rudy Giuliani to abandon his interest in running for governor and run instead against unelected US Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand." Apparently some think there isn't support for a Governor Giuliani, what with polls showing that Attorney General Andrew Cuomo would beat him, but Senator GIuliani has a more appealing ring—"State Republicans describe Giuliani's chances against Gillibrand as excellent and say the statewide organization fielded by Cox to become party leader could become a powerful base for a Giuliani Senate race." Interesting, especially since former governor George Pataki has been mentioned as a possible Senate candidate—but he's got a lot of baggage.

i don't know if its just been too long since i've watched the godfather, but in my mind, the headline was read by Don Corleone

  • I think it would take something on the order of Gillibrand being photographed inhaling from a crack pipe for Rudy to beat her.

The state GOP is so desperate they'll go for Senator Anyone. If they thought they could run Cookie Monster successfully then there'd be a blue furry monster on the ballot.
