Heads Up: Military Flyover In Queens For U.S. Open

FYI, those planes may be for Federer-del Potro: "Today at 4pm, U.S. military planes may be performing a flyover in conjunction with the start of the finals for the US OPEN in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. You may see low flying aircraft in the area." And a tipster says, "The flyover will include approximately 4 - F15E Fighter Planes."

Why didn't they have a military flyover for the women's finals as well? Sexist pigs.

When will this fucking shit end???????

I agree! Get out of my damn park so I ride my bike in peace!

Napalm is overkill, but dropping feces is quite acceptable under the circumstances.

hmmmm... how much government money is spent on these fly overs... and what exactly is the hoped for return? Could it be that we are wasting millions of dollars for absolutely nothing more than a joy ride and a quick thrill for a small handful of tennis fans at best?

"how much government money is spent on these fly overs"

pull your fucking head out of your ass. fighter jets are cool.

They are cool.
But, you know what's cooler? Fighter jets blasting Bin Laden to bits. And he's not a tennis fan.

It is part marketing on behalf of the Pentagon, both for recruitment and general good will purposes.

The other part is actually practical. Fighter pilots are required to fly a certain number of hours each month to remain current. If they weren't doing flyovers, they'd be flying around in circles near their base or somewhere else.

fucking asshats were practicing their flyover last night (this morning) at 3am.

I have to admit - much as I try to enjoy flyovers, they make me extremely nervous. I can't get the image out of my head that someplace else in the world seeing these planes appearing on the horizon is filling civilians with terror. I appreciate them as incredible technology and I love planes, but I find parades of military power obscene at a time when people elsewhere are dying at the hands of it.
