The Post reports that at least six Department of Buildings employees "will be arrested later this month, along with about two dozen Luchese crime-family captains, soldiers and associates." Ooh, another mob sweep. Apparently the Buildings inspectors, two of whom are "full-blown Luchese associates," "were videotaped taking bribes at construction sites, and some were seen dealing cocaine and prescription pills while on duty" and "lined their pockets by ignoring violations or expediting construction and building work permits." And the revelations emerged from a 2007 case in NJ, where some members of the Luchese crime family "ran a staggering $2 billion-a-year gambling operation and supplied drugs and cellphones to Bloods gang members in state prisons." Guess the DOB's new code of conduct is coming in handy.

Bloomberg is involved, no doubt.
That's right, there was never any corruption in this town till that evil Bloomberg came along. I'm sure the man who refuses a salary and give away countless millions of his own dollars is somehow in on this for an envelope full of benjamins every month.
And he served his 2 terms. Now, per the wishes of New York City voters, he should leave office after completing his 2nd term.
The wishes of voters will be determined on election day. I'm in favor of term limits but he did it by the book having them repealed. As flawed as he is, Bloomberg is still the best guy for the job. How many city politicians have any record of accomplishment in the real world outside the insular cocoon of politics? How many of them know anything about running a business?
Hello, 100k in salary is chump change. He makes MILLIONS with his no bid contract. Below is the newest article in Village Voice on how Bloomberg INCREASE his wealth as mayor.
http://www.villagevoice.com/2009-09-01/news/bloomberg-keeps-his-billions-separate-from-his-mayoral-obligations-yeah-right/
The mafia is involved with construction in this town? Really? I thought Rudy G rid us of these parasites..
ROFL
I hope no one has to deal with this city agency, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. the only agency worse would be HRA. both agencies in some way makes money for the mayor's buddies, aka the richies.
I thought this mayor and his admin the DOI was tough on corruption? why can't they be as tough on corruption as they are on counterfeit goods? in which they actually have a separate new agency to fight counterfeit goods.
and, I'm tired of hearing the mayor making $1 a year and he's from Boston.
Have always suspected Bloomberg put that joker LiMandri in as a brief DOB interim Commissioner, so to later install a well connected developer friend.
Already got rid of the sad and ineffective Patty Lancaster, then changed the State licenced professional credential rule so an architect or engineer is not required to head up the agency. B. couldn't put in his own developer friend yet - too fast, much political heat. Instead promotes non-licensed lightweight Limandri in the midst of the DOB turmoil, who said among other comments to the NY Times that he felt qualified for the job in part because he is a Yankee fan like Bloomberg.
Bloomberg only has to wait for the inevitable screw up(s) on his watch. And here we go, it was only a matter of time. Hopefully if won't include more innocent, preventable deaths that ousted Lancaster. Most likely LiMandri will go sometime after the next election to 'spend more time with his family' or 'get back into the private sector' and Bloomberg will finally install one of his cronies in the commissioner slot.
And if you think the move will be for it's for a more honest DOB or public safety, think again.
well said Liz, I see Limandri and I think of daniel libeskind. anything new on that concrete testing corruption?
Ahh, yes; yet another new cracker-jack DOB 'special division' to handle the concrete situation.
Another DOB Band-Aid over a gaping wound. But gangrene has already set in.
Like I said, it's just a matter of time. Really don't think Bloomberg has any intention of keeping boy LiMandri, he needs a stepping stone.
"This is symbolic of a new era at DOB. We are interrupting the cycle of giving and taking bribes. We have sent a strong message of zero tolerance to our staff and now we are sending the same strong message to the industry and to the public."
- quote from DOI Commissioner, 2003.
DOI is another biased agency working for the Mayor.
when will comptroller Thompson audit these agencies? someone has to do something. isn't anybody even listening to the voters/constituents anymore?
here's one event that voters of this city should not forget, The Deutsche Bank fire. where's an independent investigation on that?
Two fireman Died on that job.
interesting, it was DOI who instituted this investigation, it was NYPD and the DA's office. I wonder why?
Does DOI do any background checks on DOB employees? I'm sure they do. in fact, there's a special DOI division for DOB at the DOB HQ on Broadway.
darn, should read it wasn't DOI who investigated this.
because DOI is in the mayor's pocket.
