More 9/11 Adploitation

moscownews911.jpg

As the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) investigates how on earth a print ad and a commercial recreating 9/11 (with more planes) got through any stage of the approval process, AnimalNY points to a new ad that's just as tasteless. They report that another Omnicom agency (BBDO Moscow) created a "digital papercraft Twin Towers project for the Moscow News ... a free weekly English language paper founded in 1930 by American socialist Anna Louise Strong." C'mon Russia, it's not like we're over here hocking Diet Coke with some imagery of Moscow burning in 1812 (no matter how refreshing a cola would have been after Napoleon's invasion).

Just as DDB Brazil did, this agency also channeled another disaster—not the Tsunami, but Hiroshima. The campaign is called "Things hard to explain, in a language you understand." What language should New Yorkers use to explain to these agencies that 9/11 imagery shouldn't be used in advertising?

Even though I despise the content, I can appreciate these from a purely aesthetic point of view - pretty awesome, ONLY on that level. But is that a person falling at the top of the explosion on the left? That would be patently ridiculous, but I can't quite be sure.

Pretty despicable. It's not about being a 'powerful' visual. To exploit tragedies to make a lesser point is inhuman. It's gross, no matter what the tragedy.

Anyway, most of these 'ads' are also fake/scam ads again made just to try to 'win awards' in advertising by a few misguided folks who don't even understand the business.

Even aesthetically, what's so innovative about this? It basically looks like that eerie, urban-legend circulated, $20 bill fold-up trick with a few photoshopped colors to boot.

Re: exploiting tragedies to make a "lesser point:" you need look no further than cable news on ANY hour of the day...

stop whining you fucking transplant pussies. it's not a big deal, they're not saying "we love when people die" or something. stop. stop. stop. you are worse than people complaining about obama's speech to children.

At least this one makes some sense, but still I think there are some more confusing things happening in the news that would have made the point a bit better. And would have been more relevant to 2009.

How about that weird fucking picture of Putin topless on a horse? That could use a fucking explanation.
