Yesterday's West Indian American Day Carnival was the place for city-wide office candidates to be seen, and leading the way were Mayor Michael Bloomberg and City Comptroller William Thompson, who are expected to battle to be mayor come November. Mayor Bloomberg marched with one of the parade's Grand Marshals—General Colin Powell—who endorsed him heartily, while Thompson marched with Governor David Paterson.
CityRoom reports that Powell, who has Jamaican roots, said, “I would encourage everybody in the crowd, all the citizens of New York not just to go with an endorsement, even though endorsements are important, but to look at the record of the individual. If they do that, I think they would find that Mike is the guy who ought to be mayor for a third term." Of course, Powell, who endorsed Bloomberg on Larry King Live earlier this summer, is a Virginia resident. Anti-Bloomberg hecklers shouted, "No more years."
According to PolitickerNY, Paterson couldn't offer the same kind of support for Thompson——pointing out, "I just have to wait for the Democratic primary to be over because those candidates are both members of the same party"—referring to City Councilman Tony Avella—"and like a minute after the primary’s over I’ll be ready to endorse.”

Did Bloomberg Code Pink Powell?
Doesn't anyone see the delicious irony of Colin Powell endorsing Mayor Bloomberg for another term?
Powell was THE person who told the whole world that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that we had to invade. And Powell and his boss W. both now say Powell misled the entire world, lost us trillions of tax dollars, 4,000+ soldiers' lives, and ruined America's reputation around the globe.
He's arguably the most incorrect person of the last 100 years, (Powell, not Tax Hike Mike) ...making him a pretty hilarious choice to endorse our naked Emperor, no?
How PERFECT.
But no journalist will tell NYorkers the truth.
