  • Blue Jays 14, Yankees 8: Even a first-place team can look like last-place ones. All it has to do is start Sergio Mitre, play terrible defense and play backups for half the game because it has a day-night doubleheader the next day. The Yankees led this game, 5-4 at one point, but then Mitre and Mark Melancon had enough of that. Derek Jeter had three hits, leaving him three shy of Lou Gehrig's Yankees record. The Yankees start a long homestand with two against Tampa Bay on Monday.
  • Mets 4, Cubs 2: Bright signs for the future? Mike Pelfrey threw eight strong innings -- for once -- and Daniel Murphy had a homer, a triple and four RBIs to lead the Mets to a series win against the Cubs.Angel Pagan had two hits, as did Brian Schneider, who's having a year that seems to be of the same quality as the entire Mets team.
  • Kim Clijsters' win over Venus Williamsin the third round removes yet another top women's player from the field. Clijsters, who was given a wild card, is playing in only her second tournament since returning from retirement and giving birth to a daughter. Rafael Nadal also won, beating Nicolas Almagro despite a stomach injury.
