  • The Fire Department is investigating a Staten Island house fire that trapped a disabled man. Firefighters were able to rescue him right before the floor collapsed.
  • The supervisor of Southampton was arrested for a DWI in Westhampton Beach. According to Newsday, Linda Kabot, "refused to submit to a breath test and failed 'all' sobriety tests.
  • A workers' compensation doctor claims that the MTA owes him over $600,000 in claims since 2007.
  • The Daily News spotted Anthony and Charlene Marshall at Brooke Astor's old Maine estate—the one prosecutors claimed the couple forced the philanthropist to give to them.
  • Joseph Kennedy will not run for his uncle Ted's Senate seat.
  • 17-year-old American Melanie Oudin continued to play Cinderella at the US Open today, taking out 13th-seeded Nadia Petrova to advance to the quarterfinals. ESPN says that her ranking will go rise to "at least 45" after the tournament.

    Great pic of 2 prototypical useless MTA employees...

  • Maybe if they offered some earlier games, 1pm like normal or even a 3pm game, people with young families could go more. Most games started at 5pm or 6pm, and that the beginning of melt down time for most.

    Tho a beach area at 1pm with a Stadium with little shading...
