Under Fire, White House "Green Jobs Czar" Resigns

2009_09_vanjones.jpg The White House said this morning that Van Jones, an adviser to the White House Council on Environmental Quality, has resigned. Jones, an expert green jobs, had come under fierce criticism from conservatives after it was revealed he signed a petition that supported the belief 9/11 was an "inside job," a tape showed him calling Republicans "assholes" earlier this year, and his involvement with a group called Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement was questioned. Jones released a statement, acknowledging much vitriol was directed at him, "On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me... They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide. I have been inundated with calls -- from across the political spectrum -- urging me to 'stay and fight.' But I came here to fight for others, not for myself. I cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to expend precious time and energy defending or explaining my past. We need all hands on deck, fighting for the future."

Enough with these damn "czars" who are somehow free from any congressional oversight or vetting. This isn't Russia - yet.

In czarist America, government vets YOU.

At least he hasn't cited racism like our beloved governor yet...

He's waiting for the next news cycle, don't worry all the self hating left will jump on board with how ashamed they are that we haven't transcended race yet.

you know what, fuck that. this country's govt was based on having dissenting opinions. i don't want a govt where we all blinding follow orders without opinions. if he thinks its an inside job, that's fine, that was a different administration. maybe he wanted the govt job that close the the white house to learn more truth. who knows. but does his opinion on an event almost 10 years ago effect how he creates or handles or whatever he does with green jobs? not really that i can tell.

seriously, right wingers need to stop this bullshit and freak out smear campaign over nothing and keep things relevant.

The last thing you'll learn as you get closer to this white house is truth.

The doubts over this guy were not a freak out and smear campaign; he has continually held dangerous opinions and views. And by dangerous I mean dangerous to the core values of our republic; I'm not sold on switching to socialism just yet, and for him that was never far enough.

How about the smear campaign against people daring to question their elected representatives about the health care bill, being called "nazis" and "brownshirts" and "astroturfers" by the likes of Nancy Pelosi? How about Joe the Plumber getting raked over the coals for simply asking Obama a question he couldn't answer during a campaign stop? Spare me the liberal sanctimony.

a vicious smear campaign against me

What kind of a person can be "smeared" with the truth?

Funny how NY Times readers as well as CNN viewers found out about this guy and his "weeks long controversy" just today. If you got your news from the "mainstream media" you would think that this came out of the blue. Those who read news blogs knew he had only days before resigning.

All the news that's fir to print, heh, Pinch? Your biases are bankrupting your family business.

yeah, it seems so i agree, though obviously we don't know for sure. a few firefighters i know agree about that too, but the mainstream masses are asses.

The Bush family's business relationships with the Sauds and the BinLadens hasn't yet been fully explained. Maybe there's an innocent explanation, but I haven't heard it yet.

He must be innocent of these specious charges because I have read and heard over and over on ABC, NBC and CNN as well as in the NY Times that he is a "Best selling author"... You know, like Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Michelle Malkin and Bill Oreily are best selling authors.

And how the hell could they have ever uncovered these things that Van has said in the past few months and years ? How the hell are they supposed to know he did 8 years in prison ? How the hell are they supposed to know that Van announced he was a Communist in 2004 if he changed his mind in 2008 when he was offered a job by Obama ? How could they have ever found out these things he said about whitey poisoning Black neighborhoods... which is a matter of fact.. I checked Wikipedia and it is right there to see... How could they have ever known he signed some petition about 911 being planned by Bushie and the US Millitary ??? which happens to also be true, its on Wikipedia.

They could never find these things out because they are focused on terrori... I mean "acts of man made disaster by middle easterners". They have been applying their great skills and acumen in uncovering threats and danger to Americans. They cant be expected to divert the FBI resources from that in order to find out these things about Van can they ??? I mean its not like they have nothing better to do... its not like they have a staff of 4 people like Glen Beck that can spend hours on the net and YouTube uncovering these things. Come on people, wake up !!! This is a right wing smear !!! The Whitehouse just could not get their message out in the media to disprove these lies because nobody will listen to them. The Republicons are scaring people into believing these lies and the poor Left cannot be heard... they are being drowned out because the media is controlled by the right wing conservatives at CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC,NPR, NY TIMES, LA TIMES, USA TODAY, WASHINGTON POST and the GOLDMAN SACHS crew.
