Drunk Driver's Flying Car Lands in 2nd Floor of LI Home

2009_09_carvshome.jpg A Suffolk County man was awaken from his sleep yesterday morning when an SUV came crashing through his house—flying airborne into the second floor! 58-year-old John Sarli was sleeping on a couch in his den at the back of his East Moriches home around 12:25 when the Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 20-year-old Adam Clark came flying into his foyer and landed headlights-up. Clark had run a stop sign and then hit a berm that sent him into the air for about 85 feet according to Sarli.

Police say that Clark reeked of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and was slurring his speech when they arrived on the scene. He failed sobriety tests and was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. A friend of his was also in the car, but did not face any charges. Clark's father told Newsday, "It's just one of these unfortunate things. These kids have growing pains." He added that his son has "always been a good kid" and "never was in bad trouble."

Sarli says that he had just put up the home for sale on Friday, but laughed that he's "not selling anymore" after the accident. He seems to have taken the incident remarkably in stride, as you can see in the video below of him showing off the scene of the crime.

"These kids have growing pains." We ALL have growing pains, but I for one do not drink & drive into homes. Good thing we all do not have fathers like this beauty. Great father, he must have taught his son how to drink & drive ... asshole.

No, the parents shouldn't be blamed. But he did say stupid shit. Besides, it doesn't matter: This kid is fucked. He's underage and he fucked up big-time -- in Suffolk County. Good luck with that court case, junior.

I knew flying SUVs existed! Government needs to stop holding out on us.

I guess none of you are parents. First you can't blame a parent for his/her childs mistakes. Yes, this was aweful poor judgement on the drivers part and thank goodness no one was hurt or killed. The father was most likely just as shocked as the homeowner. Yes, he will pay for it however, why should the parents be punished for their kids mistakes? Why shoud people condem a father for his sons actions! I seems to me that the father was in a state of shock. It seems that too many people are too judgemental of others even when they do not know the others circumstances.

It's not a matter of the parents being blamed; it's the nonchalant attitude or downright defense of their kids terrible behavior.

Lisa Simpson - "Judge Snyder, motion to declare a writ of 'boys will be boys.'"

    Snyder - "Motion granted."

I think this falls under the category of "bad trouble."

I wonder what sort of "good trouble" this dumb shit got into before this>

Parenting probably has little to do with this accident. The kid was drunk driving and had a major accident which he will pay for with his increased insurance premiums for the rest of his driving life. Lucky he didn't kill anyone, but he'll live w/this experience (and hopefully stop driving) for the rest of his life.

    Impressive!

Meh. In Long Island, this is what passes for social climbing.

"Unfortunate"? Hey, dad, it could have been lethal. Imagine how fast he must have been going to sail 85 feet through the air at least 10 feet up. Kid must have though he was auditioning for the next Dukes of Hazzard movie. As a parent, you're terrible. But on the plus side, at least your car insurance premiums will go through the roof and the homeowner will probably sue you for every last dollar so he won't have to sell the house.
