Couple Protests Horse-Drawn Carriage on Wedding Day

petacouple0909.jpg Yesterday a Virginia couple, Kelly Respess and Paul Kercheval, tied the knot in Grand Army Plaza—but instead of hopping into a horse-drawn carriage afterwards, they decided to draw attention to the cruelty of the carriage industry. The message on the back of their 1936 Ford Phaeton (a vehicle similar to the "horseless carriages" being proposed as replacements) read, "Just Hitched—But Not to a Carriage."

The bride said, "Knowing that someday soon horse-drawn carriages in New York will be a thing of the past would be the most wonderful wedding present I can imagine. We're asking other couples who are getting married to steer clear of horse-drawn carriages and avoid turning their joyous wedding day into a day of misery for an abused horse."

Peta notes that the newlyweds also handed out informational leaflets to guests and passerby; the site also has more photos, including the My Little Pony-esque wedding cake toppers!

When the shit really hits the fan in the world, veal like these will be hopeless. Survival is for the fittest.

This gets funnier by the minute. FTC2 outed, disappears. "theTruth" appears, tries to out Peeba.

"theTruth" magically appears minutes after FTC2's 6:10AM post. "the Truth" also has poor grammar & links immediately to the same old videos. In the end, who is the real Keyser Soze?

  • theTruth

Hey asshole, I have no relationship with FTC2.

  • dadoc

Yep, that's him/her/it. Soon the puntuation will deteriorate, allegations of ugly mothers & bestiality ensue, Bloomberg diatribes commence.

  • theTruth

Who are you? What do you want from me? You have no idea who I am. If you have nothing to do, then go out and find something to do.

Um, Felix? Felix? Felix? (In my best Ben Stein voice, which is not very good).

i hope that someday soon marriages in New York, and marriages period, will be a thing of the past. traditional marriage is a biologically inaccurate way to organize civil society.

  • Guest

"biologically inaccurate way to organize civil society" hahahahahahha

Good call. Comparing the other comments from other sources this is really her. Anonymity Fail.

Seeing these jerkoffs go back to Virginia will be the best wedding present I could imagine.

So instead of being used to pull carriages, they can be made into glue. I refuse to use glue that isn't made from a horse.

Holy shit, you mean Felix is a woman? My worldview is shattered!

OK...I'm setting the over/under on the number of cats she owns at 12.5.

And I think we have the number of significant others pegged squarely at zero.

    LOL, WTH? I'm no dame.

How right you are, how RIGHT you are.

I think the couple is taking a good small stand on a matter dear to them. though I don't think it's necessary for it to be like a publicity stunt. though I suppose that's the point, to draw attention to this subject.

sidenote: I think the reason we get so upset over animals being abused or used, perhaps more that humans, is because we see them as innocents.

  • I disagree. I feel our society does it because animals are an easier target (hunting pun not intended). Treating humans well has far too much red tape and bureaucracy.

  • From July 1998 through December 2008, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed over 21,000 dogs, cats, and other "companion animals." That's more than five defenseless creatures every day. PETA has a walk-in freezer to store the dead bodies, and contracts with a Virginia Beach company to cremate them.
